DiCaprio is a child actor with longevity. He may be better compared to Christian Bale. So who do you think is better between those two?

Sandler is actually an exceptional actor when he wants to be - he has a few serious roles he does really well in

Most of these comedic actors are incredible when they want to be - probably because comedy is the most difficult genre to pull off

See Robin Williams later career and Jim Carey (Truman Show, the Majestic, Eternal Sunshine)

Yeah Bale is WAAYY better than DiCaprio

DiCaprio is one dimensional in that his go to is overacting. He’s the modern day William Shatner - except DiCaprio is overrated.

Clooney over Pitt?

Clooney is the same exact character in every movie (save one) - himself

I cant explain it but Pitt bothers me. Some of his parts may be the part.

I like Clooney. Always have....

Ferrell is a better actor though I like Sandler more

Pitt - seems to have more range for roles

Gibson - This one is close in my mind but giving he nod to Gibson based on him appearing to be more talented various aspects of show business.

Whitaker for pure acting but again I personally like Denzel better.

Hackman probably one of the best alive. If you had paired him off against DDL I probably could not give you an answer. Clint is amazing though.

6) Damon vs DiCaprio? (too easy for me--Leo pretty much never misses, but I am a big Damon fan).
7) Deniro vs Pacino (Deniro)
8) Tom Hardy vs Ryan Gosling

How about
Matthew McConaughey v. Pitt?

I got Mathew.

Leo
De Niro
Hardy

And I would also pick Bale over Leo.

Ferrell for the fact that he played Chazz in Wedding Crashers vs Elf. We're not talking top actors of course but better range than Sandler.

Clooney I guess

Gibson for sure

Whitaker for his range

Hackman

It is close, but still, I give the nod to more range and higher highs - that's Whitaker.

To be fair to both - the absolute best comparison is Denzel in Training Day versus Whitaker in Last King of Scotland - and you can't fit a playing card between them at the end of the day.

Denzel also had Glory and his early performances (notably A Soldier's Story) really showed a lot of ability. He did so much more than Whitaker did that was high profile, as well.

As to your other point, anyone who watches Whitaker in The Shield knows he is one of the best actors of his generation (as is Chiklis, frankly, nearly as good as Vic Mackey as Cranston in BB and Gandolfini in The Sopranos but gets little love).

Whitaker in the Shield is the best piece of acting out of all those actors? Is that a joke?

Sandler
Pitt
Crowe
Denzel
Hackman

1) who gives a shite?
2) Pitt, but neither is that great an actor. Both are great movie stars, though.
3) Crowe, by a mile
4) FW, by a nose
5) Hackman

Maybe im in the minority on the quality of acting in the Shield. I watched the show for the first time earlier last year when the shutdown hit (loved the show). They were all good, but I didnt think they were "great", atleast not on the level of Cranston or Gandolfini. The earlier seasons were a little overacted I thought

That's not even close. McConaughey has killed it since Dallas Buyers Club. That, True Detective, and White Boy Rick blow anything Pitts done out of the water.

That's a really good point. Didn't even think of Bale.

His range is off the charts. From American Psycho to The Fighter....he's gotta be one of the best to do it.

I'm not sure he's "leagues apart" from Leo. I think Leo in Jango and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is some of the best scene-eating ever put on film. I've always enjoyed Pacino "doing Pacino" too. Maybe Leo doesn't have the range Bale does, but he's definitely a movie star.

May be more appropriate to compare Leo to Cruise.

I mean, it is obviously Hackman. Eastwood has had a great director career though.
