I used to think college was the better route. But, Hampton turned down 1.8 mil and now both Football and Baseball are slipping away. I would tell any kid to take the money and get his degree later.

It’s always been the better route for kids like Hampton. We as fans are selfish sometimes. I appreciate and respect that he wanted to be a Tiger. He just ran into the buzzsaw that is Pawl.

I wouldn't advise anyone to turn down nearly $2 million to go play college ball. You can still get an education 4 years later if baseball doesn't work out.

At this point it is inevitable college players will be payed. MSU basketball just changed their name to the Spartans presented by Rocket Mortgage

College athletics is dying. We shouldn’t be surprised that corporate America will deliver the final blow.

I wouldn’t turn down $1.8 million to go to any college in the world, ever. I suppose talented kids like Hampton think the money is still going to be there in a few years, but it always ends up being much more fleeting than expected. Take the bird in the hand.

Depends on each individual's situation and how much money

Someone like Crews could possibly have gotten hundreds of thousands or even a million. But he thought he was a top 10 pick instead of round 2 so he came to college. It’s still early but that is looking like a great decision.

Hampton’s situation is different than most. He shouldn’t have turned down that money to play both sports at LSU unless he thought football was his future not baseball. If he thought baseball was his future he was never going to put the time in needed to develop as a baseball player to get more money as a 21 year old than as a 18 year old when he is focusing on football for half a year.

Degrees are over-rated and aren't worth what they cost these days. They certainly aren't worth losing millions in the draft.

That $1.8 million also came with a cost.

He would have to give up football, put any aspirations for a college degree on hold, and be stuck in the lower minor leagues for the foreseeable future. Spending weeks at a time on a bus traveling from one small ballpark to another isn’t a glamorous life.

He chose to go to a place with world class facilities, highly respected football and baseball programs, and begin pursuing his college degree.

His choice also kept a future in the NFL as a possibility. A 7th round draft pick in the NFL signs a contract well over $3 million.

He bet on himself & lost. Had he wanted to only play baseball like he is saying now he should have taken it before they realized he can’t hit off speed.

And I’m still not sure that $1.8 was an official deal anyway.

Wasn't is dad who convinced him to go to college? I guess he had unlimited confidence in his kid, because unless you're at Bo Jackson's or Deion Sanders' level, 2 sport pros are very rare.

He got injured in 2020.

He's young and talented.

He's not dead.

There is still plenty of time.

He’s fricking 19 years old. To say he has already lost the bet on himself is ridiculous.

He’s also 2-4 with a double. To be almost 4 weeks into the season and that is the only opportunity he has gotten is also ridiculous.

Is it? Why? Whose at-bats should he have gotten instead?

Bianco

Mainieri has shuffled enough shite around to get the kid multiple games at SS, where he has gone 0’fer. He could have shuffled more shite around to get him out of the lineup and get a first rounder who in game opportunities has gone 2-4 with a double.

Who did CPM shuffle around to get Bianco starts at SS? If Doughty doesn’t get hurt, Bianco likely never gets a start at SS.

Regardless, Hampton is an OF. Who in the OF should have been replaced to get Hampton more ABs?
