Being a native Nashvillian, when the Titans came to town, I switched from being a Chiefs follower (mainly due to D Thomas playing for them in my younger days). Didn’t switch for the Grizzlies though because frick Memphis

Yeah I was a fan of the Yankees when I was younger because Bernie Williams was my favorite player and lots of Cajuns fans are fans of the Yankees due to Ron Guidry. I realized their fans were douche bags and it felt dirty rooting for them so that died. My dad is a Braves fan and I watched them as a kid on TBS every day but I had trouble being a fan of a team in Atlanta so that was never huge for me though I did love John Smoltz.
Randomly decided to follow the Pirates when McCutchen first kind of burst on the scene and then I randomly got sent to about an hour and a half away from Pittsburgh to work for about a year so I watched them every day and it’s stuck. Went to a couple of games at PNC and spent a few weekends in Pittsburgh and loved it and the city. Definitely not the best decision I’ve ever made since Nutting is a cheap piece of shite, but I’m committed now.

i kind of have. grew up as a braves fan in atlanta, went to tons of games, all that.
moved to cincinnati, worked for the reds for 2 years (including being at like 155 of the 162 home games over those 2 years), lived here for 7 years now, and have slowly morphed into caring about the reds more than the braves.
baseball to me is the most local sport there is. games are every day, results day to day are less important, but it's excellent local culture and really annoying to follow out of market. i still follow what i can and cheer for the braves, but i was pulling for the reds in the playoff series this past year.
also, switching from the braves to the reds is a downgrade so that makes it easier to justify/i dont get judged really ever.

I have but that is because my parents moved us from Long Island, NY to near Tampa, Florida in 1990 which was before the Lightning and Rays existed.
I was a fan of the Islanders but I jumped to the Lightning around 1996 when the Isles debuted the Gorton's Fisherman logo.
I'm a Mets fan but I have been to more Phillies games being that their Spring Training site was close to us in Clearwater and I saw the Phillies at The Vet and CBP about 30 times when I was stationed in New Jersey and my wife is from there so I kind of have a soft spot for the Phils. The Rays play in a shitty place and my oldest son and I got food poisoning from there in 2008 so frick the Rays until they get some sense and move to Tampa.
For football, I was a diehard Giants fan but I knew more about the Bucs players growing up and was ecstatic when they started winning under Dungy in 1997. It was a great time for me being in High School too during Dungy's first 4 years coaching the team. Tom Brady has made the area fun for sports fans again.

There are situations where it’s acceptable
1- Original team moves
2- A team moves to your previously teamless city
3- If you grew up in a city without a team and latched on to a team for whatever reason but then you move to a city with a team (say you grew up in Shreveport and rooted for the Cowboys, but then you subsequently moved to Houston, you can start rooting for the Texans.)
4- After 10 years in a new city you can switch to that city’s team no questions asked.
1- Original team moves

I was kind of forced to when that piece of shite, who is now roasting in hell David Stern, facilitated the move of the beloved, popular, large market, and attendance record setting Seattle SuperSonics to some trash, tornado infested, AAA level, trailer park. I now root for the teams that deliver the worst TV ratings in the playoffs. This year I am all in on Jazz and Bucks for the finals.

I've switched teams but let me explain. I grew up in New Orleans as a Cubs fan for the same reason other people born there are Cubs fans. I moved out to San Diego 7 years ago and I started going to games and followed the Padres closely and now am more of a fan of the Padres. Now was I truly a fan of the Cubs that I am for the Saints, of course not but I was their fan. So I think someone can change teams if they didn't grow up in the town the team was in.
