My sister (no pics) works in a Trauma unit and she does a lot of pediatrics specifically. ER Dr.’s or Trauma Dr.’s are paid similar to other specialized doctors (per sisters response that I just asked...).
She also added that every Trauma doc she’s worked with has been the most emotionally cold person she’s ever met. Zero emotional reaction to anything.

They can. They have to put in the hours.

I imagine that they'd have to be cold, otherwise the job would eat them up.

ER is getting saturated as a specialty for physicians but it can pay very well if you’re established and in BFE.
The docs making fricking bank for (relative to other specialties) less time training are rural family med moonlighting in rural ERs and doing minor surgeries like appendectomies.

Back when I was a VF our Medical Director, an ER Physician, always used to come around after a bad MVA or fire to talk to anyone distressed. Always remember him saying to do your best to disassociate from the trauma.

If you’re picking for your kid (not advised but just saying) you should encourage them to go Dermatology without question. No call, no major surgery, and dentist’s hours.

You kinda have to be emotionless dealing with that. It's all business.

The earning scale for dermatology has to be related to supply and demand, vs complexity and risk.
I had a gruesome, yet non-life threaten skin cancer situation. Three months for a diagnosis appt.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get into a dermatology residency now?

When I was in Fiji about a decade ago I was talking to a rural MD from BFE Australia. Dude did freaking everything. Delivered babies, performed general abdominal surgery, did some ortho procedures, family practice, etc. pretty cool to see in a world where you see specialists often punt in the blink of an eye.
