This kid was on one of the BMW forums in the days preceding this crash. Other members of the forum tried to talk him out of what he was going to do. He insisted that everything would be fine and went ahead with his plan anyway. He and four of his friends lost their life in the crash. It took a couple of days but the other people on the forum realized that it was him driving the car that crashed. It really shook that forum to the core.

A post in that thread:

The only human I have ever seen that was dead and not in a casket, was a motorcycle accident on hooshootoo rd and Jefferson.

I saw a story on the news about it and searched him on FB.

He posted literally 15 minutes before the wreck....it was a photo of his bike with a quote about how he finally got a bike and was about to take it out for his first ride.

What has always stuck with me about that was the poor lady that hit him after he laid his bike down....she was hysterical

Maybe just ominous or scary to me personally:

My first apartment when I moved to SLC in 1995 was 563 First Avenue #5 (arrow). Ted Bundy's apartment in 74-75 was next door at 565 First Avenue. I didn't know that whan I moved in.

Better picture. Bundy's apartment is on the upper right.

Pretty sure this is a photo of Bundy in custody in Utah.

Not the Deep Water Horizon...

Piper Alpha Rig, 1988, North Sea
167 died, deadliest oil rig accident. A lot of the modern day safety measures on oil rigs are a result of this incident.

There was an interview or documentary I watched a few years ago about a platform that exploded and everyone died except a few people. They interviewed one of the survivors, who said him and a couple of other people climbed to the very top of the platform and as far away from the flames as they could. The temperature got so hot that they finally just had to leap off the platform into pitch black smoke not knowing really what direction and where they would land. IIRC he was the only one of his group of three that survived. It made me sweat just listening to him telling the story.

That WTC pic looks photoshopped.

It is. I knew it was fake when it was originally posted not long after 9/11.

First. The North Tower was the first hit. The rooftop observation deck was on the South Tower. No way any tourist would have been up there after the first plane hit. Which leads me to...

Second, the plane hit the North Tower before 9am. IIRC, the rooftop deck did not open until 9am.

Third, the camera is facing North, the plane that hit the North Tower did approach from the North, but as mentioned, the observation deck was on the South Tower. The plane that hit the South Tower came from the South.

Fourth, and this I learned after, the plane is the wrong kind of plane. And of course, it looks completely out of place

This is new to me. I find this picture eerily chilling, and I'm not the type to be bothered by these type things.

I wonder how many people watched him do this and thought "You know what, I now realize there are people without homes."

This board made me remember something - I took dance with Polly Pastori. (I had to google her last name)

I brought our dance instructor home several times to the house where Polly was rotting in a chest. I talked with that evil guy a few times. Yikes.

The other girls in class and I always wondered what happened to her - I guess we all found out after Hurricane Katrina. That was a strange few years ...

"On 11 June 1955, a major crash occurred during the 24 Hours of Le Mans motor race at Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France.

Large pieces of debris flew into the crowd, killing 83 spectators and injuring nearly 180 more. It was the most catastrophic crash in motorsport history, and it prompted Mercedes-Benz to retire from motor racing until 1989."

"The momentum of the heaviest components of the car – the engine, radiator, and front suspension – hurtled straight on into the crowd for almost 100 metres (330 ft), crushing all in their path. The bonnet lid scythed through the air, decapitating tightly jammed spectators like a guillotine."

"The alloy burst into white-hot flames, showering the track and crowd with magnesium embers, made worse by rescue workers unfamiliar with magnesium fires who poured water onto the inferno, greatly intensifying the fire."

"Accounts put the death toll at 80 to 84... either by flying debris or from the fire, with a further 120 to 178 injured. Other observers estimated the toll to be much higher."

I was on campus that day with my family. We rode it out in Gorgas Library. Surreal isn’t a strong enough word
