Ill never understand how people can just give away a dog. Id move mountains to keep my dogs.

So leave my wife, my 7 month old daughter, and my job so that i can keep my dog?

Look, im not happy about it, but short of dropping 8-10k on a new fence, or keeping her in her kennel all day long, i have no other option. Keeping her locked up wouldnt be fair to her. So while i used to think theres nothing that could make me give up my pup, situations change. If you dont like that, you can kindly frick off.

A trained dog won’t mind the crate during the day.

I trained mine in a crate, then moved to her going to dog bed on command. Now she’ll go wherever I put the bed, so she spends the day in the laundry room.

When I worked from home for a week with covid, she’d see what I was doing for a while and then went on her own to the laundry room to sleep.

“Keeping her locked up” during the day isn’t unfair. It’s a routine, dogs like routines.

Have you considered building a smaller area fence ? My neighbor put a fence where he could open the back door and let his dog out and he could get to the patio to get out of the weather. The fence is about 20'x 40'. Like you he didn't want to drop serious coin on fencing the entire yard because it's a big lot.

Don't sweat it man. At least your trying to do the right thing. We "rescued" our Boykin from a life of living in a dog crate 20 hours a day when his family situation changed (his original "dad" lost his job and got another one out of state).

When I lived in Charlotte ages ago, I once saw someone dump out a dog in Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. The door popped open, out came the dog and the car sped off. It was heartbreaking watching the dog chase after the car as it was speeding away. One of the most POS things I've ever seen in my life. This is not what your doing so don't feel bad. Find the pup a good home where it will be happier than it is with you at the moment. That's the best thing you can do.

I built a 350ft fence for $1300. Paying someone to built a fence is stupid.

Cute dog though
