I think this season of True Detective gets a lot of "extra" love around here becasue of its setting location.
Great season of television, however, its not in the GOAT discussion. The last 3 or so episodes and ending were not equal to the great start. Fell a little flat. If the ending would have stayed consistent with the rest of the season there possibly could be an argument.

It was fantastic acting, fantastic setting and score, a fantastic opening and middle, and a downright horrific final act
