It doesn’t give me that option, or I’m blind or stupid. It lets me copy link, or send to social media.

Thanks for the pics - off the top of my head, I'd say those are .50 cal. I have a book somewhere at the house on bullets from the Civil War. I'll look into it. Another thing, look closely inside the cavity - is it flat at the top? Any designs in them? I've found a couple that have a star or the like in them. If I can dig them out I'll snap a pic.

The measurements are around 1” in length and half inch wide. I know when I come across a bullet for sure. The reading it gives my machine and the sound lets me know I would say 95% of the time. On my AT Pro it rings up a 67-69 range and a loud ring, kind of like going over a aluminum can.

On my MXT, bullets range arond the 45 - 65 area on display. One thing I've found is that shotgun shells and buttons ring the same. Hate those damn shells

I actually got a medal detector for Christmas. Have been trying to research and get started but the last 6 weeks has been pretty crazy for us.

Ready for this snow to disappear and I will begin the search.

No stars in these.

There are different variations from different groups. I’ve seen almost every variation through the Facebook groups I’m in and from a co worker who knows Port Hudson like the back of his hand. He’s hunted the area from the 70’s to now.

Here are some more from my collection - some of my stuff is at my Dad’s in his gun safe lol. This first bit you’ll see “US” buttons - these are pewter and from the same site as the Light Dragoons buckle is from. This entire case is from that site. There is one pewter infantry “I” in there. This case is roughly 1/4 of the buttons that came from that US War of 1812 campsite

This case contains mostly civil war stuff, the military buttons are all yankee. Some infantry and some artillery. Also, there are a few bullets - mostly .58 cal - and percussion caps, etc. . Dad and I have been metal detector for probably 15-20 years around here. We have found so much stuff... but you never find it all!

Burnside (partial, missing the case). Dad has a complete one he found.

Complete, undamaged, Civil War Spencer Round

Yankee Eagle button (tons of these)

Awesome.

There is a ton more out there. You will have that place to MD for the rest of your life I’m sure. You could find something everyday. You may find an area where they dropped the old gear and got new buckles and straps. That is a dream come true area looks like. I would hunt any creeks and and sides of ravines.

Thanks man. It really is a great place. I’ll take anyone that wants to go lol. Dad found a sword hilt, dog tags, bullets cut onto chess pieces...all kinds of stuff. He is huge into research and has all these old maps showing house sites, etc. Very helpful. I’m heading out this weekend again if the weather holds. Sometimes you have to hunt a site several times before you find anything... but there have been days where we find nothing but mosquitos and the like.

Do you have a pinpointer? Not necessary, but very helpful.

This thread has been like a breath of fresh air!

I use an Equinox 800 and a Nokta Makro Simplex. I have found some interesting stuff here in Stillwater. Old Fire Dept Badge pre 50’s. Some bullets from the land rush campgrounds and a few weeks ago I hit a contestant’s badge from the 1941 US Open . Crazy how it got here when the tournamnent was in Ft Worth. I just got mine 2 weeks ago and love it. I'm learning a lot about how to find and have already picked quite a few coins.

Metal detecting is addictive. Once I get started I don't want to stop.

That is probably the best collection I’ve seen. Great finds.

I have a Whites Eagle Spectrum and used to hunt a lot when I lived in south Louisiana. My best find was a piece of LA colonial coinage that was made between 1811-1815. There was a shortage of coinage in LA at the time so a bank took some Spanish reales, divided them into eighths, and counter stamped them with the bank’s initials. You could even see the markings on the reale. I found it near Donaldsonville and gave it to state archeologists.

If I still lived there, I’d take you up on the offer to hunt that GA plot!

It’s a great hobby and addictive.

Got in with a Silver Umax, tried and sold an AT Pro, then got a used Eldorado Umax which i still have along with a Nokta Simplex. Found some vichi and nazi coins at our farm that was interesting.
