Got into md just a few months ago and love it! Have a old cheaper md and plan on getting a new good one soon. I’ve only found about 5 dollars of clad and a 100 year old spike off a hay cutter.

You'll probably be looking for iron? Should have no problem there, if you be certain your detector is not set on skipping iron. It will blow your ears out. Buttons and bullets are another issue and I've never looked for them. There's a lot of you tube videos on it tho... Hoover Boys on you tube would fit in to what you are doing.

I’m also just starting out. Anyone interested in trying to do some together? I’d love to help find some civil war relics on private land. Obviously not interested in keeping them.

In the near future, when I get a decent md, i'll hit you up. From what I hear most landowners will let you keep what you find. I' m interested in coins only so if they wanted anything I would attempt to make a deal beforehand.

I’m addicted to it! Have a White’s MXT and love it!

Some of my finds..all found on family land here in south GA. I have found maybe a 5-gallon buckets worth of civil war bullets (3 ringers, Williams cleaners, etc)

War of 1812 pewter Light Dragoon’s buckle - one of only 2 known in existence.

Those things are amazing. Seems we used to spend a whole lot of time and effort designing apparel

I have a Garrett At Pro. Invited to do some metal detecting around Port Hudson a couple of times.
Got some bullets and some artillery shell pieces.

Wish I had somewhere old or a decent place. Hard to stick with it without good hunting land.

My family has a lot of land that has its share of history. From Revolutionary to Civil War, to colonial homesites to plantations. I prefer to find military-related stuff while my dad likes coins, but I’ll take it. All in all I have found roughly 50 or so coins from that era. A few examples:

Thanks. Oh you should see some of the buttons, hat pins, etc. Crazy designs. Found a silver ring (wedding?) from an old Dutch house site where I found a coin from the late 1600s. Amazing amount of history here

Here are a couple of pics. Like I said I haven’t had much good hunting ground. The ring was found in New Orleans City park area. It’s a 1944 High school ring from New York.

The two other pics are from Port Hudson area.
I’ve spent many hours finding junk everywhere else and it’s slowed my attention to the hobby since.

Sorry for the links, I don’t know how to post them otherwise. My internet is also in and out right now with the ice issues here in BR area.

Great finds! Would you mind measuring the base and length of those bullets?

Again, sorry for the links. The measurements are around 1” in length and half inch wide. I know when I come across a bullet for sure. The reading it gives my machine and the sound lets me know I would say 95% of the time. On my AT Pro it rings up a 67-69 range and a loud ring, kind of like going over a aluminum can.

Thank you for the tips. Should be a lot of fun I hope my kids and I can get into it especially during turkey season.

As for those looking to join I’m open to it I have a major civil war ferry crossing on our hunting club so there should be stuff there. I also have a friend who has a lot of land that has a lot of history on it.
