Are you a Federalist or an Anti-Federalist? The lingering question that won’t go away.

The Federalists never died. They just changed names over and over again, but the spirit remains to this day, so I ask, do you identify with Federalists or are you a Jeffersonian anti-Federalist?
Do you still believe, or have you ever believed in state sovereignty and a small central government or is the will of DC what’s most Important? Do you believe in the right of the people to choose their own government ie the spirit of words contained in the Declaration of Independence, or is the will of the central government right because of might? Are you more apprehensive of self government or of a strong and all powerful central government?
It mattered then, and it matters even more so today.

Anti-federalist. They argued then that a republic could not properly function w/ a large federal government. They were right.

Anti-Federalist. The Constitution should have never been ratified.

A small central government is codefied in the Constitution.

I actually saw this on my twitter feed a while back with the caption "Who the hell fights for a President?!?!"

Time has proven T. Jefferson being correct. A lot of folks don't realize that when they ditched the Articles of Confederation it was basically a coup at that point, many of the delegates walked out in disgust.
The Articles is an easy sell to any group. H3ll, I even have black separatists agreeing with me on this.

There really is merit to the idea of separating the head of state role away from the head of government. The brits and monarchists in general have the right idea about that.
Remember the "Not my President!!!" nonsense about Trump? That's rooted in liberals recognition that Donald Trump was just elected as Head of State and was going to be the face of the United States of America.
That's one symptom of the toxic political climate we have right now.

When the American spirit was in its youth, the language of America was different: liberty, sir, was then the primary object. But now, sir, the American spirit, assisted by the ropes and chains of consolidation, is about to convert this country into a powerful and mighty Empire. Would this constitute happiness, or secure liberty? Such a government is incompatible with the genius of Republicanism. There will be no checks, no real balances, in this government. What can avail your specious, imaginary balances, your rope-dancing, chain-rattling, ridiculous ideal checks and contrivances? Patrick Henry.

Yep. The states sent their representatives to amend the Articles of Confederation, and Alexander Hamilton seized the opportunity for a complete reorganization of government to fit his vision of a supremely powerful central government.
And lets not let George Washington off on this one... he was completely under Hamilton's sway. Either he didn't' have great judgement, or he agreed with the notion of "a British system without a King". Which makes me ask "Did Hamilton WANT an Oliver Cromwell?"
