Why?

If they were a bad rebounding team, I can see the argument for him needing to go get more rebounds, but they’re not.

This is such a silly criticism.

Going down this path Zion will never sniff an MVP and will turn in to a taller Dennis Smith

And you'll say this knowing full well he's 40 games into his career. FOH they just won 6 of 8 and now lose one in bad fashion and you're jumping to conclusions saying Zion will never win anything. How so? He just dropped his career high 36 at age 20 on extremely efficient play. The game is being opened up for him and he's playing more of a point forward role which is what all the premier players in the league (Lebron, Giannis, Kawhi, etc.) do. You just want a reason to shite on the Pelicans.

As well, he's 8th in PER ahead of Lebron, KD, AD, Jimmy Butler, and loads of other players. This would make him a definite all-star/weak MVP candidate.

He's 50 games in and 10th in value added and 10th in estimated wins added. Leading the league in FG% for players with >15 points a game. Shooting great from FT which everyone thought he was Shaq at. And he's still not even that terrible at rebounds like you would claim.

You're biased and it shows. Remind me again how playing him at "PG" is ruining him? 50 games in he's an arguable top 10 player in the league. You watch one national TV game and claim he's ruined. Garbage take

Just wait for his contract to end and he heads to a bigger market.

Jordan was drafted in 84 and didn’t win a championship until 91.
Lebrun was drafted in 2003 and didn’t win one until 2012.

Maybe we can reserve judgment for a few years? I’m not saying he will compete with these two, but good lord we live in a strange time if a player who is able to contribute on his level is being remotely called a bust barely a year into a career. Not to mention regime changes and Covid.

Zion should of been grabbing 10+ boards from day one

why? we have steven adams

Zion needs to be out running the break instead of staying back for boards. i understand you're a historically bad poster on this board, but this take may be your worst ever

yeah i mean i was on record a few weeks ago with some real criticisms of Zion. the irony with this thread is most of those magically disappeared when, drumroll, he became more of a pg

even shite like his FT% has improved dramatically in short order after the philosophical switch

but this switch RUINED him, b/c he's not setting NBA records for rebounding

The switch to Point Forward has unlocked him into an absolutely incredible level. He’s averaging like 7 assists a game over his last 8.

He’s already a top 20 scorer in the league.

He literally leads the NBA in points in the paint with historical efficiency. The only player with similar point efficiency is Shaq.

He has taken the same amount of 3s as Ben Simmons and is around 38ish%. In 48 games. Simmons has played close to 300. And Simmons is at about 10%.

They do not ask him to rebound. Adams does that. If they did, he would. What a colossally stupid take.

The Pelicans just came off a 4 game win streak with him at Point Forward. He’s already one of the best players in the league less than 50 freaking games into his career.

Also downplaying his offensive rebounding is a dumb take as well. Offensive rebounding is significantly more impactful than defensive. 80% of the time Zion misses he's getting the board and putting it back in. It's unprecedented and makes him even more effective/efficient

I love Zion he should be the best player of his generation and a once in a lifetime talent. This generations Shaq. But the NBA is trying to turn him in to Eric fricking Bledsoe

why do you value defensive rebounding so much for a wing?

They aren’t. And he isn’t nor will ever be shaq.

He’s Zion. He’s not 7’2”. He’s a physical specimen but he isn’t shaq. He’s a better ball handler than Shaq. Better passer. Softer touch.

He scored in the paint different than Shaq and has a totally different all around game.

Zion needs to be Zion and the past 10 games has started that process. And he has been incredible.

Zion is much more Lebron than Shaq. Lebron wasn't some twig driving to the lane

Also, Zion was used much more like Shaq when he was underwhelming, including a Shaq-like 55% FT earlier this year

The weird hate that Zion gets is just bizarre. I don’t get it at all. He’s a ridiculously nice and humble kid, not some a-hole.

And he is playing incredible. Doing historic things offensively.

Ja Morant is worse than him defensively and gets no heat at all and universal love.

So weird.
