Is Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle the most...

...important comedy film produced of all time when it comes to pop culture?
It spawned two sequels in the following seven years, but more importantly it brought Neil Patrick Harris back to the world.
While NPH played a fictionalized version of himself, that character paved the way for him to be Barney Stinson in "How I Met Your Mother."
Does that series exist or become as successful without NPH in the cast?
This brings to the present and the next branch off the the "Harold and Kumar" tree...."Cobra Kai."
Would "Cobra Kai" have been produced if not for NPH's Barney character's love for Billy Zabka as the Karate Kid on "How I Met Your Mother"?
And this completes the circle, as Zabka was playing a fictionalized version of himself on "...Mother."
Did I miss anything?
Any other property contribute so much like "Harold and Kumar"?
(Deep thoughts.)

Would Law and Order SVU even have existed with Christopher Miloni being Detective Eliot Stabler had he not been Freakshow? Really paved the way imo.
also, weird that I just saw he's involved with a new Organized Crime law and order, full circle indeed.

He was an original cast member on "SVU," which premiered in 1999. Don't think the credit for "SVU" can go here.

Hot tub time machine also helped put Billy Zabka back in the mix.

The second one really was the perfect socio-political satire for post 9/11 America. It’s also the rare example of a sequel that is better than the original, and the original is an absolute classic in its own right.

Part of it is just the cycles of pop culture and the entire entertainment industry putting all their money on existing IP instead of new scripts

Most important? Probably not.
But you are correct in that we may not have ever seen NPH on HIMYM or Cobra Kai may not have been made.
Regardless, it's one of the best comedy flicks of the last 20 years.

That's fair. The folks making and funding films and series these days are the folks that grew up with 80's pop culture, which is why such things are making a comeback or being rebooted.
Think that's partly why comics films are doing so well the last decade plus...Kids of the 80s and 90s grew up on comic book cartoons and the comic boom of the early 90s.

What else compares when it comes to having helped spawn other properties?

Yes. NPH's career was completely dead at that point so his casting wasn't responsible for the movie's success. They could have swapped him out with another forgotten 1980s teen actor and had the same results.

harold and kumar, yes, but he's talking about HIMYM.
HIMYM isn't nearly as good or important without NPH. NPH gets the HIMYM role due to Harold and Kumar (probably not true). im in on this thought process, though.

You misread my post if your takeaway was about the success of the films.
I’m not saying NPH is responsible for the success of Harold and Kumar. I’m saying HIMYM would not have been successful without him, and his casting in the series was because of his role in Harold and Kumar.

I mean... no. I really like Harold and Kumar, but I mean when it comes to pop culture and comedy both Scott Pilgrim and Zoolander come across as more important pop culture comedies.

That wasn't the question you asked originally.

40 year old virgin made Carell a big name, leading to his casting as Michael Scott
Launched the film careers of Seth Rogan, Jane Lynch, Kat Dennings, Elizabeth Banks, and Mindy Kaling. Propelled Paul Rudd and Kevin Hart.
Wet Hot American Summer is another to consider
