Rental Car Tips?

Going on a trip in a few weeks. Finding different rates various ways, but was wondering what’s everyone’s go to when renting a car.
Using kayak/orbitz these types of sites? Or using the original site like enterprise/hertz etc?
Finding it way cheaper on kayak or orbitz, sometimes kicks me to a car rental service I never heard of before... are those trustworthy?
Just checking to see any tips. TIA!

I generally use autoslash. You can also plug your rental information in once you’ve booked and it will alert you if a cheaper price is found at a later date. It’s worked well for me but I only rent a car 2-3 times a year.

I usually use Hotwire for car rentals.

Great info! Will look into this, y’all ever have any trouble using smaller companies that aren’t enterprise/hertz/ etc?

I've used fox twice and had a good experience. They're usually dirt cheap. Their reviews online are terrible but both times I've used em its been the same experience I'd get at any other company

Rent from the dining directly, use a CC that carries liability with it.
I rent a car once or twice a week. I use national bur hertz before that.

I used Costco. Made a reservation. Then I went to Autoslash and signed up for alerts when prices dropped. Got an immediate email back for the same class vehicle at $120 less than Costco.
This board is great!

What airport? I used to rent cars all the time, I used cheapcarrental.com, Hotwire. I use Fox rental at bigger airports, the used to have luxury cars at low prices. Google is your friend.

I use Enterprise most of the time.
As soon as you have firm dates, lock in a reservation online. It costs nothing.
Recheck periodically (or like me ...almost daily). If the price drops, book a second reservation and THEN cancel your first.
It costs you nothing, and you are guaranteed to get the cheapest rate they've offered.
Second tip, I'm doing this in Bozeman in a few weeks. Book at an Enterprise that is NOT at the airport. Take an UBER there to get your car. In my case, I'm saving $500 for a week rental by avoiding the Airport location.

I always rent directly with the company, currently Enterprise. I find them to be the easiest to work with. If you rent thru a third party you cannot make changes directly with the rental company; your third party insurance is not recognized y the rental company so you pay for the damage then have to recover your money from the third party. Lastly I do a walk around video before driving away. Be sure to include a shot that identifies the location and the rental company.

Great advice. If anything goes wrong you work with the rental car company direct instead of a third party

I take pictures every single time I get a car from a lot. You never know if they'll say you caused a dent or scratch 3 months down the road. This way you have evidence of things being there before you officially got the car. Take a picture of the mileage as well on the dash. Going to do this in a few hours
