Caught this 6 episode mini series last fall. Engaging, depressing, fantastic cinematography. Watching it, I said to myself, Mark Ruffalo should win awards for this.

Golden Globes nominees list came out and he is on it! First time I have actually rooted for an actor to win.

Sorry, I can't see that title without thinking of Spandau Ballet.

It's a good book. I'm in the middle of it now.

Read the book. Wally Lamb is a favorite of mine and the book was great. The miniseries is on my list.

Agreed. She turned in one of those performances that superseded the nut job she is IRL. Much like Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock. Two people whose IRL personas I can't stand, but agree they played their roles to perfection.

Yeah, I thought it might be a doc about 80's music...

I loved it. Maybe the most depressing thing I've watched in a while.

Ruffalo is a great actor. I have enjoyed his work over the years and will seek out movies that he is in.

There are a handful of actors whose personality and/or activism really gets under my skin, but I actively suppress that agitation based on the principle of respecting everyone’s individuality, and personal freedom of expression. I pride myself on respecting their skill as an artist and setting aside my personal distaste for their off-screen actions or comments. Ruffalo is one of these people.

There are some for whom I just am not strong enough to accomplish this discipline. This second list is much shorter, but it exists in my head and I mostly am able to keep it to myself, at least. Nevertheless, I don’t take pride in my duplicity.

Ruffalo’s “George W Bush is a war criminal” schtick is tired, but he is one hell of an actor.

I always thought the Alec Baldwin from 30 Rock was just his normal personality.

So I'm supposed to believe this hag:

is the "gorgeous ex-wife"?!

Just read about the novel and the show and it sounds like absolute shite.
