He’ll still run for mayor next year to split the conservative vote

Jordan Piazza was reached for comment but couldn’t be understood with a BBC in his mouth.

Wow, this guy JUST ran for mayor, the election was Dec 5. I didn't vote for Broome, but I could only imagine the chaos had Carter won, and passed away in basically his first weeks of office.

Any worse than letting SWB and Murphy Paul continue to frick up?

Poor guy. Too add insult to injury, now he gets to vote for Broome for her third term.

The other one would be still in a transistion, and suddenly you have to transistion from that...
Consider that the runoff was in December, later than the presidential election. Biden's been "in office" a couple weeks. Would Carter have even gotten into office by now, or would we be having- what, another election? Or someone step up- it's not like there's a 'vice mayor' on the ticket.
Who would have been the next in line, and for how long?

He was a very talented guy. He was LSU student body president and a tennis letterman in the 1960s. He was the LSU Men's Tennis Coach in the 1970s. He was selected SEC Coach of the Year 2 out of 3 years and won an SEC Championship. He was a player's coach. He was a great Tiger.

Very sad. From my understanding, he was a good person but he was entirely too old to be running for mayor. I was critical of his entering the race and this just proves that we need to be focusing on younger candidates instead of established politicians that have served their purpose.

What medications did he receive? I wonder if he tried the drug Trump received?

I really never understood Steve Carter’s out of the blue last minute jump into the mayors race.
If he was really interested in being mayor, he would’ve announced a year or two earlier to start raising money, getting as much support and endorsements as he can and try and clear the field.
This last minute jump into the race and the complete milk toast half assed campaign he ran was absolute bullshite and a complete insult to the hardworking producers of EBR Parish who wanted Broome gone.

quote:Carter had knee replacement surgery in June before the election. He wasn’t sure he would recover in time to campaign so he waited to see how his recovery would go. On the final day of qualifying he was 100% recovered so he signed up to run.

He was a great man and fought very hard for school choice. He was one of the few legislators that would always try to do what was right and not what was politically expedient. Louisiana lost a good one. God Bless you Steve and prayers for his family.

Now that's an even bigger insult to voters.
Deciding on whether or not to run based on how well a bum knee works out?
Not based on whether or not he could win and get enough support for a potential run? Not weighing the other candidates in the field? The mood of the voters and what the current demographics looks like? Not coming to terms with the fact that the window on his political career has closed?
