Hopefully Home & Garden is the right board to answer my question concerning my set up for a natural gas jet boiler for crawfish season. I have a 3/4” natural gas pipe to my backyard. I Cajun engineered a 32 Tip NG jet burner to a bayou classic base. My question is what size NG hose should I use? Should I keep it uniform or can I reduce it? I’ve seen affordable 3/8” hose or 3/4” at 12’ lengths. (the 3/4” price is substantially greater) Thanks in advance.

My guess is no matter what you use the pressure wont be there. Those gas hook ups stubbed out the back of houses run BBQ pits which is considerably less pressure than jet burners need.

I use a six foot long 1/2" diameter hose, shared between my crawfish burner and generator (edit to clarify - only use one at a time).

This setup will work just fine, assuming your burner is designed to use natural gas at the standard residential pressure of 6 inches water (about 0.2 psi).

That’s good to hear. The line is to an old Generator. Thanks.

I use a 15’ long 1/2” diameter hose for mine. I have a 100 qt pot and it takes about 17 minutes to get the water to a boil. It’s slower than my propane set up but way more convenient.

Being able to carry a conversation without yelling is what sold me. Extra few minutes for the water to boil just means an extra beer to drink.

I have 3/4". When you using nat gas you need volume, and a 3/8" hose wont give you the volume. You will need a substantial wind screen as well that will help to hold the heat in.

Heres Mine, YouTube Video

ETA; That entire setup cost me about $125.

Same setup for me as well. Love not worrying about how much gas is in the tank.

What is special about a natural gas hose (besides the quick connect/disconnect)? Could I just use a heavy duty 3/4” water hose and put the proper connections to connect to the boiler and natural gas line?
