Trying to get rid of my AMEX. Any ideas? All bashing conservative thought.

Why? It’s a great tool to use for your daily cash expenses such as at the gas pump or paying for items online so criminals don’t have your debit card number. I went this route after a credit union I was with seemed to have terrible security. Mine and my wife’s cards were stolen 5 separate times. Left that bank and moved to using Amex

Amex is a difficult one to cancel. The annual dues are auto billed to account. Paying off the balance and cutting the card up will not do it. The person of record will have to listen to 1-2 hours of phone music and talk to 2 supervisors before they agree to close the account.
Amex was a great international card to have and I had a lot of expense flow through it. at one time it was an outlet for depositing money as well as withdrawing. but no longer have a travel. requirement

No you cannot, the website instructs you to call the number on the back of your card.
"How do I cancel my Card account?
We're sorry to hear you want to cancel your Card. We'd love to continue our relationship with you. Please call us at the number on the back of your Card so we can assist you. If you're located outside of the US, you can call us collect at..."

Canceled mine quite easily. Called, they asked why, I answered honestly, guy got pissy, I told him cancel anyway and send me my $700 cash back that was attached.

There are other CC gramps, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Cap One etc.
