It’s gotta be Title IX

That’s the only thing I can think of that’s making so many up and coming talented DCs turn down DBU. I’m afraid somethings going to explode a little later this year.

How many that we have offered have turned us down? 1? 2 if you count Nielsen drama?

2 coaches agreed to come to LSU
what part of this piece do you not understand?
in life, sometimes you don't get what you want, but you might get what you need

Freeman didn’t come because he is a huge family man and didn’t want to leave the north. Nielsen was screwed by the saints and didn’t really have a choice. It’s just some unfortunate events. You people are crazy.

He was screwed by getting a promotion and a raise? Sean Payton is losing 3 of his staff members already and a possible DC. He obviously thought highly of Nielsen to find a way to keep him on his staff. Do you see the irony of you calling someone else crazy?

There have only been two people offered the job that we know of and only one turned it down by choosing another job. The other one actually accepted the job but had contract issues.

Watch and see how long he stays with Saints. My money says the first opportunity he gets to bolt....he is outta there. They basically knew they screwed him, so they tried to make it right the only way they could....money and a bullshite resume title.

He was screwed in the sense that he didn’t have much leverage with his contract. The raise and title promotion was a salve to smooth over the situation. Sorry if crazy was to far off the edge. In your case, I guess I should have used the word ignorant.

How many times have you been called by a head hunter, but never even take the interview because you feel comfortable with what you’re accomplishing and would like to see through the long term plan you have put into place? I’m sensing (at this juncture in the process - this year) that could be a significant factor. This was a weird year due to Covid impacts on time frames of availability when one puts most all their eggs in one basket.

The reason Freeman didn’t come here is because he wanted to go to Notre Dame over LSU. Period. He interviewed first there to get an offer, then interviewed here to get leverage to increase that offer. And it worked. The mental gymnastics you guys spew out to avoid having to admit someone wanted someone else more is childish.
He's not here because he didn't want to be here. It has nothing to do with latitude or because he loves his family more than another candidate would have. Think about how absurd those two excuses are.

Really? Uhm...how many talented DCs have turned down DBU so far according to you?
Let's see, Ed O offered two guys thus for. First, he offered Marcus Freeman who initially accepted the job until he got home and his wife vetoed it not because of Title IX, but because his wife said it was too far away from home.
Then the only other guy to be offered the job Ryan Nielsen initially accepted the job until the Saints and Sean Payton informed him that, per his contract, he couldn't actually take the job. Again, nothing whatsoever to do with Title IX.
Meanwhile, per your post, you obviously know more than everyone else, so name all the prospective DC candidates that have since turned down the DC job at DBU for Title IX concerns?

He literally told his team at cincy he was going to lsu.
You are wrong.

Uhm...Marcus Freeman wanted to be at LSU. Which is why he initially accepted the job.
Then when he got home, he was overruled by his better half because she said Baton Rouge was too far away from home. As his wife grew up right near the Notre Dame campus. In fact, her parents still lives there to this day.
Nonetheless, Marcus Freeman wanted the LSU job and would have taken the LSU job until he was over ruled by his wife and I can't say that I blame him. Since a happy wife equals a happy life.

quote:Actually, they didn't screw him. He got a promotion, a raise, and very likely promises of more to come if he stays with the Saints in the future.

They had the ability to out leverage us and did... because Neilsen is just as valuable to them as he was desired by us. And he got to stay in the NFL and not have to recruit and not listen to parents and 17 year olds make demands based on what they think they can do. He gets to make demands on players based on what he wants them to do.
Now they could screw him in the future by not promoting him in the future.
He could screw them by taking the same job or promotion with another NFL team.
But for now, the Saints got a lot of what they wanted (retain coaching talent) and Nielsen got a lot of what he wanted (promotion, raise, continuity). And that's why their negotiation was successful and ours wasn't.
In a good negotiation neither side gets everything they want, but both sides get some of what they want. And that's why we were out leveraged... Saints had more of what he wanted.

More than 2. Just because they haven't interviewed doesn't mean LSU refused to reach out to interview them for DC opportunities. Odom is an example he told O no 2 years in a row. Not only that Arnett clearly didn't want the job if those reports were true when he interviewed. He did the same thing to Oregon. I'm thinking he got bad advice from his agent or something to get a raise. They had a report LSU talked to Schumann then nothing. You think they're talking to these guys because they don't want to interview them as DC? They talked to Mason and he's Auburn's DC. Don't know if that was mutual interest from LSU though. Now you're down the list.
Face it, LSU is a problem destination for whatever reasons. Baton Rouge, Orgeron, investigations, combination of everything, who knows. You don't go this long without a DC with NSD right around the corner knowing your DC was going to be fired months ago without problems brewing up.

Literally every beat writer and news outlet reported he accepted the LSU offer and then Reconsidered due to distance from home.
The amount of mental gymnastics some people go through to paint everything in the most negative light possible is childish.

When is the last time a ND defensive coordinator was directly hired into a Power 5 HC position? Bo Aas hired directly from LSU to be HC at Nebraska. Aranda was hired directly from LSu to be HC at Baylor. Chief likely could have gone that route after 2011, but he never desired a HC position.
Freeman wanted to be at LSU. Much better position for him to directly transition to a power 5 HC job. ND coordinators will always have asterisk by their name due to their schedule and talent level. His next transition will likely be to a small school HC position, NFL DC or lower DC position( if ND doesn’t do well). He can thank his wife for adding an additional step to climb in his way to a P5 HC job. ND won’t field a Top 20 defense anytime soon.

Terrible post and no logic. Terrible.

Only 1 DC has turned LSU down.
LSU sent 1 back to Starkville.
The Saints blocked 1 from leaving their building.
