I assume that our tax dollars help keep this franchise in New Orleans I know they have their contract and I respect that but if our tax dollars are paying for this contract then it seems we have some say in our disappointment in the way they have handled the negotiations. Obviously there are large sums of money involved in this important decision for LSU. Make no mistake Nielsen wanted to be at LSU. Now he has a new title. I have always understood that the football revenue helps support the academic side of the school. I know that the saints are vital tourist dollars for New Orleans but I don’t like that our tax dollars helped in the renegotiation of Nielsen’s contract. I’m sure most of our congressmen and Governor are evaluating all of this,

Yes. God forbid his current employer do what is in their best interest and promote him to keep one of their best guys in house.

If Neilson was dead set on being LSU's DC he could have broken contract, paid the fee, and gone to Baton Rouge. He was offered Assistant HC of an NFL team and realized that it's a much better position.

Tax dollars go toward the Superdome, not to the team directly. Also, if Nielsen wanted to be at LSU he would be. He chose a promotion to a position where the last guy just got an NFL head coaching gig.

To be fair to op, let's be honest, his responsibilities at new Orleans wont change much,if any. It was a way for them to try to make him feel better about being dicks

Responsibilities may not chance but he will make more money

Look, we're all LSU fans and as fans we're slightly delusional. We see LSU as the pinnacle but in reality a job in the NFL is more lucrative to some.

He had a choice. Go to LSU for a real promotion and fight litigation for breaching contract or get a little pay bump and a different title with less resistance. He chose the one with the less headache involved. I doubt he’s making anything close to what he would be as LSU’s DC as a defensive line coach.

Early lead for dumbest shite to be posted today.

Yes, our Governor and Congressmen (I hope you do realize one has state jurisdiction and the others are part of the Federal government...) should spend their time investigating why an NFL franchise chose to promote an assistant coach rather than let him go off to a university in Louisiana.

LSU fans have the biggest vaginas

This dude was just promoted to assistant head coach. Why was that spot vacant? Because the one before him just became a head coach in the NFL

Get the frick over it, pussy

that but if our tax dollars are paying for this contract

This is a gross overstatement. The NFL generates tens of billions of dollars in revenue every year and shares it with the teams. Yes, the Saints benefit some from local taxpayer dollars, mostly in the form of the Superdome. Realistically, that is a drop in the bucket compared to their rev share. Plus, there is no question their presence makes up for far more than that in tax revenue for the city and state every year. Make no mistake, “your tax dollars” are not paying for any notable fraction of Nielsen’s contract. Not even close.

Stop making shite up. He agreed to a deal before his employers got the chance to counter, because they were busy with a fricking playoff game. And then, guess what? They countered, and signed a fricking extension. He didn’t have to sign shite. If he was being “forced to stay” he could have just said nah frick that extension...but he didn’t.

Sorry that an aHC job with a successful NFL team is more desirable than the constant revolving door of coordinators at a flailing LSU program. I’m an LSU fan but this is ridiculous.

Stop trying to blame the failings of Ed Orgeron on the Saints
