If we are talking about high mileage cars I travel a lot for work so I keep a travel car and the last three have been Lexus ES and the first two were retired between 400k and 500k, the current one had ~425k on it.

Outside of routine maintenance that car has had a ridiculously small amount of repairs needed. Outside of a single brake light bulb only three repairs for a total of under $1,700. (CV joints, PS hose and ignition coils) None of which stranded the car.

For long-term durability/reliability both statistically and IME anecdotally you simply can't beat Toyota/Lexus. There are a couple of other brands sniffing around the shorter term quality but they still don't have their long term durability vetted on these newer more reliable models.

1997 Toyota Camry 122K (commuter car)

Previous vehicle was an 05 Silverado with 298K on the original motor and transmission when I sold it. The transmission went out a little after I sold it but the baw got it rebuilt and now has about 325k on it.

14 Gmc Sierra- 113,000. I had to replace the AC condenser twice. GM manufactured a faulty design with the condensers. It is well known but they still won’t recall them.
