After being taken POW when his ship was torpedoed by a U-boat, Lt Isac did indeed jump from a moving train and swam an icy river. What's left out is that it was his third escape attempt and that he walked 120 miles to Switzerland.
Fluent in German, he eavesdropped on the crew of the U-boat that captured him and relayed vital information on U-boat operations once back in London.
