Shocking: Some in Ascension Parish are actually trying to improve their road network.

You'd never know by driving through it, but some folks apparently are trying to help fix that giant clusterf*ck. Learning this was such a shock to me that I thought I'd post it on the OT- both to share this surprise and to gauge the trashiness level of this roadwork.
Unfortunately none of that is really going to help resolve their traffic problems except for a few of the roundabouts.
Anyone know what a "safety widening" is? It sounds like they aren't actually fixing anything.

Here are some of the 34 Move Ascension projects and their status:
C. Braud Road widening between La. 73 and Bluff Road in Prairieville: Construction bid awarded late last year.
La. 930/Henry Road roundabout in Prairieville: Construction bid awarded late last year.
Roddy Road widening between La. 935 and La. 621 northeast of Gonzales: Finishing utility relocation, next will be construction bids; clearing already finished.
Roddy Road widening between Airline Highway and La. 935 east of Gonzales: Close to bids for clearing along roadway path.
Roddy Road between Merritt Evans and Norwood roads in Galvez: In utility relocation; close to construction bids.
Henry Road widening between La. 73 and Tillotson Road in Prairieville: Expected to be advertised for clearing along roadway path early this year.
Germany Road widening between La. 44 and Airline Highway northwest of Gonzales, near Duplessis: Land purchases beginning after preliminary design completion.
Intersection improvements at Airline Highway and Germany Road near Duplessis: Utilities being moved; advertisement for construction bids expected.
Braud Road/Germany Road roundabout north of Gonzales: Finishing land acquisition and headed to utilities relocation.
Parish Road 929/Braud Road roundabout in Prairieville: Land acquisition underway.
La. 930 safety widening between La. 42 and Causey Road in Prairieville: Land purchases done; headed into utility relocation.
Parker Road/Parish Road 929 roundabout in Prairieville: Land purchases underway; expected to receive $1.5 million in federal safety money in fiscal 2021/2022.
Unfortunately none of that is really going to help resolve their traffic problems except for a few of the roundabouts.

Can't wait for Whole Foods to open in Ascension Parish.

I like the number of roundabouts coming. Wish there were more. AP has far too many inefficient 4 way stops
Henry Rd is much overdue

I would assume it will help with the road side edge erosion we see all over the rural roads in AP

They probably need to widen Airline Highway and the state roads more than anything.

The lanes on most of those roads are about 8' wide and there's a 5' drop straight down into the ditch with no shoulder. Anything wider with a shoulder or no ditch would be an improvement.

How long have they been working on that?
4 years?

You're assuming most people here actually understand how to navigate a roundabout.

Widening state roads with federal supplementing funds for sidewalks and drainage is exactly what AP needs. They should do exactly that to LA44 and a bunch of other roadways.
But FFS they have got to do it faster than the LA42 project. Seems like those 3 miles of roads have taken 7-8 years to design and build. Completely botched the execution of that project.

Construction maybe. Design was probably another couple of years on top of that.

Broke ground in 2014, we're going into year 7 to widen 3.5 miles of highway.

Longer than that. I moved from that area 4 years ago last September and they had started construction on 42 @ 73 intersection long before that. So Id say closet to 6 years.
I bet if you laid out the list of change orders for that project it would stretch longer than the actual project.

Bet I can guess who the contractor is (or maybe was).

That's insane.
Who did they hire as the contractor? Two Baw's and a Shovel?

Hwy 42 days hi
Everyone’s aware that the construction on Hwy 42 is a state project and AP isn’t involved, right?
