If you are 35 or older you remember Ohio State being the one that found ways to lose to Michigan. Just completely owned. Tressel flipped the script quickly in 2001.

This speech at an Ohio State basketball game shortly after Jim Tessel was hired changed the Rivalry:

When was the last time they were actually in the running for a championship at the end of the season?

It's not a Harbaugh thing, it's a Michigan thing.

This is incorrect.

In 2018, Michigan was 10-1 and ranked #4 going into the Ohio State game. In 2016, they were 10-1 and ranked #3 going into the Ohio State. They controlled their playoff and championship destiny in their last regular season game twice in the five seasons. Prior to that, Michigan was undefeated and ranked #2 going into the Ohio State game in 2006. In all three of these seasons, Michigan lost to Ohio State. Two of them were thrillers, one of them (2018) was a blowout.

Michigan has an Ohio State program. The Buckeyes are clearly more talented than Michigan and it shows in recruiting rankings. Ohio State is 15-1 in their past 16 games against Michigan. Michigan's sole win over Ohio State in the past 16 years came in a season where Ohio State had an interim coach and was being investigated by the NCAA.

Michigan's Ohio State problem cannot be overstated. For Michigan to succeed, they need a coach who focuses moment-by-moment on beating Ohio State.

They significantly lowered his buyout and cut his salary by half.

It's a smart move if they can't get anyone better right now. It gives them more financial flexibility to make a hire next year.

I’m not a UM fan or Harbaugh apologist, but people forget that in both 2016 and 2018 Michigan was 10-1 and ranked in the top 4 going into the Ohio State game.

They got blown out in 2018, but they went to 2OT in 2016 and were a few iffy calls from winning that game.

I think Michigan can be pretty good if they ever get a quarterback. Weird because that’s Harbaugh’s specialty, but damn if they haven’t had some shite quarterbacks in his tenure.

Let Michigan be Michigan. They deserve the mediocre football they have decided on. The idea that they are some blue blood and college football is better with them in contention is garbage. Yale and Harvard and Princeton are not giants anymore and college football is doing well.

College football is absolutely not healthy right now. Definitely not compared to the height of the BCS. Attendance down down year over year. Major programs struggling to fill stadiums for even solid games. Only a few teams compete at all (the bcs had far more program diversity than the CFP) and on top of that ESPN owns almost all of it and is closing in on more with the SEC deal.

College football is pretty sick right now especially with schools like Michigan and USC basically walking away from trying to be competitive in football.

I wouldn't say ESPN owns CFB with the way FOX has gotten into it. FOX has Big Ten and Big 12 football and the best pregame show.

The rest of what you said is true. CFB is sick.

That's the one thing with Harbaugh that I can't wrap my head around.

He had Luck at Stanford, revived Alex Smith's career, and squeezed some very good seasons out of Kaepernick. He was even able to get pretty good production from guys like Jake Rudock early in his Michigan tenure before it seemed to fall apart the past few years.

QB being his Achilles heel at Michigan was something I did not see coming.
