While a Texit would be amazing we all know it's not possible. However, there is a provision which grants Texas the ability to split itself into up to four states. If the Dems really do try and add D.C. and Puerto Rico what are the odds Texas moves to split to maintain balance?

Build a wall around Austin for the 1st state. The other 3 states would be conservative then.

Real talk is Texas is the only state that could conveniently leave because it is coastal and most of the state has its own power grid.

Legally they cannot. However, they can legally split.

One could argue the validity of the U.S. Constitution is now null and void due to the fact that no one is following it.

Texas doesn’t want to leave the US. It’s sucking Cali and New York dry of talent right now.

It seems like a good idea and if I was a Texan I would be a huge proponent of this... but these kind of movements are easily infiltrated and could turn into a huge LARP then discredited and destroyed

Play it out. Texas splits. New York, Illinois, California, etc. love it because they'll never lose another election. They can move the country farther left. Big win for them. Downside...other states will want to join TX.

Texas would become the law and order, pro business, traditional education, anti welfare state country.

Conservatives from the United States would flood into the new country and democrats would flow out. In two generations everything would be normal to the people left in the two countries.

As for Texas splitting into five states, the best you could hope for is 3-2 conservative advantage and it would take away Texas' current advantages of being such a big state making a TX split highly unlikely.

Don't forget Texas has 15 military bases with serious firepower at its disposal.

Good point. Texas should succeed to social distance from other states. You know, COVID and all...

So now it's legal? What about 1861?

Does this make Lincoln a war criminal?

Talent? Is that what you call them?

Word of advice Texas...let them keep their "talent".

The state can hold a referendum and should it win, they can declare independence. Once they declare independence, there is nothing the SCOTUS can technically do, since the government of Texas will have de facto become another country.

If this was the 1800s, the US would of course take Texas back by force of arms. But its 2021, and peaceful succession of provinces from western powers, even ones they have held for hundreds of years, is common place now. In fact, it is the norm, not the exception.
