Moving to Shreveport for work in March. Never really been there before, so I was wondering what the golf scene is like. Any recs for some decent, reasonably affordable courses nearby? I would consider getting a non-resident membership if I can find a nice course that offers it.

Stonebridge, Trace or Eastridge are the best, all expensive.
Shreveport golf has been in a decline since 2000 or so

Really depends on your budget. I think StoneBridge is the cheapest membership wise. EastRidge membership includes access to 265.

Southern Trace
New pro, course is in incredible shape, strictly private so it’s never overplayed it’s crowded,
$350 a month all the golf you want, tennis, fitness etc

Southern Trace's members recently bought back the club from Club Corp which ran it into the ground. The difference in the course from April to now is truly amazing. In April it was pathetic. In 15-18 months it'll be back to the course that hosted a Nike/Buy.com/Web.com/Korn Ferry event.
They're about to put a state of the art irrigation system in. The clubhouse is going to be renovated to a certain extent. The just hired an executive chef to overhaul the menu. It's going to take some time, but it'll be the best course in Shreveport again very soon.

Get the membership to Eastridge which also gets you membership to 265, David Toms' training facility. They are both great facilities.
I think for non-res it's $308 per month.

Get a non-resident membership to Mystic Creek in ElDorado...its $100 month...lots of members at Squire Creek have this non-resident membership....Mystic Creek is about an 1hr 10 min drive but well worth it because all courses in Shreveport are shite!

On weekends you can always make the hour trip over to Gladewater, Texas and hit up Tempest. Incredible course.

They have been rebuilding through a non profit but querbes is the city oldest course, fun, and a family legend of ours.

Northwood golf course has been improving the last couple of years and actually Olde Oaks is in the best shape it’s been in 8+ years($30 with cart 7 days/week).Meadows & Cypress are open and they hope to get Oaks opened back up by late spring.
Just depends on where you are going to live...south Shreveport(Southern Trace or East Ridge)...Bossier(Stonebridge) as far as membership. Play some of the other ones to change things up.

I can second this. I played there a couple of weeks ago and was shocked at how much they have been able to recover the course. The greens were great.

I started back playing there in late June when a guy from my church told me how much it had improved… Been playing there for the most part since then. Use to would show up and only be two or three other cars in the parking lot… Now on the weekends, it is getting filled up early and he even had to rent 10 or 12 more golf carts to keep up with the traffic coming through.
Played there the Sunday after Christmas and had my best round of the year… Saved it for the end.

Was coming here to post about Olde Oaks and found this old thread. I played there yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. They are definitely making a comeback out there from the shite show it was a few years ago! I really enjoyed it .

No Adam Young? No thanks, East Ridge/265

I’ve played southern trace with friends and clients that are members and I think it’s a great course that I wish we had similar in BR area - I guess UC is comparable.
My friend did mention that eventually the greens will need to be replaced- I guess it’s common knowledge that they are built in a bowl shape and the greens will have to be built up.

Did both Adam and Chase leave when Shaun left? I just went to their site and the only staff listed is the new guy who replaced Shaun.
And he has half the resume of Shaun, but still charges $250 an hour for lessons.

No. They left when they were told their services were no longer needed.
