Guys, looking for some game recommendations. This is the first system I’ve bought since ps2 so I’m way out of the loop. I got it for me and the kids to have something to do on days off. I love old style games like Mario and Mario kart. Rattle off a few games to get me started. Thanks.

Sounds like you would like the online play. 20$ a year and you can play old NES and SNES games. They have a lot of Mario games.

Been playing Super Mario Bros 3 on my son's switch. Also played some Tecmo Bowl. My 6 yr old son is hooked on Kirby's adventure. You can play the original Mario Kart on the SNES games.

What’s the best way to buy games? Is there any benefit to buying hard copy vs downloaded version? I see Best Buy and other retailers selling digital copies, what’s the perk of buying from them rather than Nintendo store?

Depends on what kinds of games you like

Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Super Smash Bros.
Zelda Breath of the Wild

Those are your big must haves.

If you want something laid back - Animal Crossing, or Minecraft or Terraria or Stardew Valley

If you want RPGs - Both Xenoblade Games. Fire Emblem The Three Houses

Strategy - Pikmin 3 and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Action - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Then you get to the 3rd party games....

What kinds of games do you like? Racing? RPGs? Shmups? Sports?

Main games getting played directly by me are strategy like Mario/Rabbids and X-Com 2 as well as a mix of older generation stuff like the Namco and Sega Genesis collections, the Bioshock collection, the Psyiko collections (arcade shmups), etc.

My kids OTOH love Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Carnival Games, and Ringfit amongst others.

Luigis mansion 3 is really cool if you ask me. Have to beat a level to unlock co op mode (2 players) but me and my 4 y/o have been having a lot of fun playing it. Beautiful game visually.

Super Mario bros U deluxe is basically an updated version of the original styles. I have that one too and it is fun, can also do up to 4 player co op.

Oh I assumed you already had this. Buy the longest prepaid subscription they offer to save money, you won’t be disappointed.

I got it for Christmas and at 33 am amazed how well the Mario games hold up

Had this same internal debate. Depends on how young your kids are, but still I would recommend digital. Mostly because of the ability to easily swap games (the kids don’t really get this at first and they are used to instant gratification). Less to keep up with. Digital games also offer updates, but you will find better deals on hard copies and can also trade.

Best buy sometimes has their games on sale when Nintendo doesn’t otherwise no benefit unless you are using gift cards I guess

FYI I haven’t had a system in over 10 years and really enjoying the switch

Appreciate all the replies. It comes in tomorrow

Do I need an SD card to start downloading games? Or will the 32GB it comes with be enough for a couple games

Splatoon 2 is a great online game (like a fps shooter, but for kids) the object is to spray paint on the largest area of the map.
