Now if the showrunners will take a lesson from Jon Favreau and reset the series to the core attributes that fans want in a beloved series then perhaps they can save the show.

If the continue with the girl-power SJW tone the show is finished.

If only they could bring David Tennent back. They have a path with the 1.5 Doctor but DT is too big for that role now.

Nah. The BBC is firmly on the side of virtue signaling and social justice.

BBC is way too woke to allow a reset. They will now double down. Place your bets on the level of virtue.

This isn't news. No Doctor has done more than 3 seasons since Tom Baker in the 70s. Leaving after 3 seasons is established tradition.

Chris Chibnall isn't leaving, so why would you or anyone expect a major tone change? Jodie Whitaker was not a creative entity who decided the stories.

US Doctor Who fans have remarkably short memories.

Bringing back Matt Smith would be the prudent move to make. He kinda broached the subject with the curator at one point.

It would have been bigger news, and a terrible sign, if she had planned to stay longer than 3 seasons.

ETA: I haven't watched any of the Jodie Whittaker episodes (got hung up in Capaldi's last season), but if they've made the show super woke then I doubt they'll go back to not doing that. They'll ride that train till the show dies.

Your are correct about the average longevity, but they were handled a little differently. This is a sudden announcement.

With that said, it's been mention by Tennant and Matt Smitt that they want to be "Ginger" and it would be interesting to see someone like Ruppert Grint (Ron Weasly) take the reigns.

But the BBC will probably have a Trans Doctor this time

Should have been Phoebe Waller-Bridge if they needed a female doctor.

Helen Mirren. Go old school and bring back an elderly Doctor. Ergo, Helen Mirren.

Screw that. They need to hit as many boxes as possible; someone get RuPaul on the phone.

PoC - Check
Trans-ish - Check
Can wear a ginger wig - Check

I don't know if they can act; but doesn't that really matter these days?

You haven't missed anything. They have been.... horrible. Although that's not so much Whittaker's fault as it is Chibnall's. It's as if he's single handedly attempting to kill the show.

I'm glad I never loved Dr Who or Star Wars and had to watch what has been done to them

Seeing what's been done to Star Trek is depressing enough

How does one QUIT a show that's been face planted into the cement and the entire franchise has been destroyed?

( Hey downvote snowflake, have you read the ratings for Doctor Karen ? )

If the BBC is smart, they will dump Chibnall and start next season (not the one currently filming) with a new Doctor and a new show runner.

As long as Chibnall is still in charge, it doesn’t matter who they get to play the Doctor.

That's the problem, they're not. But they believe they're smarter than all the fans.

I don't know who that is, but most fans including me thought Michelle Ryan would be the best split tail candidate.

She was great in her episode. She's also hot and easy to understand when she speaks. She could have kept the fun vibe that's been absolutely absent since Chibnall and Whitaker took over. Hope he leaves the show when Jodi does.
