That seems like an incredible amount of strain to put on a marriage. Someone you just have some mild feelings and fun with might work I guess.

It's either for the period when two people aren't that excited for each other anymore, or you have a non committal swing partner.
I know several married people who had swing partners who wasn't their spouse.
