Does LSU golf course close in 2021?

Serious question. Just know I wish it was kept up better because the layout is great. And yes I know there is constant posts about the course. And I think my coolest driving range moment was hitting balls at LSU when the baseball team was starting a game on a weekday.
I’m out there every other month (was a lot more a couple years ago) to hit balls for the most part, occasionally I’ll play and regret it after I get on the first green or lose my ball off not a bad drive.
- terrible conditions, I’m not sure one aspect of the course is good. Sometimes the driving range has some good grass
- too cheap to make a profit, does LSU bail them out? Or give them funding at all? I don’t see the funding besides it staying open
- what are the talks about making the course parking? The course is prime real estate for more apartments and parking for LSU
- the student workers are cutting the grass, they make roughly $8-10 an hour. Like they care if they screw something up. They also sometimes have 3 workers at the front desk. Nothing against them, just doing their job.
- spur of the moment post, I'm sure I’m missing stuff.
Does it get the boot in 2021?

No funding from LSU without fans in the stands.

I would be very sad. I’ve had a lot of fun out there. Those Fred’s tournaments were a blast! I loved playing early and sitting on the porch, heckling and betting on people.

When I lived in BR from 2017 to 2019 it was in decent shape. I’d practice and play it all the time, loved walking 9 after work and seeing the stadium on hole 7 tee box around dusk. Just a good time. That being said it’s problems are obvious. They need a real superintendent, hire one and make more of those students work on the grounds crew. Also increase the rates $5 to $10. The fact that Mizzou can maintain AL Gustin so well (our student course by campus, not where the team plays either) and LSU can’t is pathetic. If LSU made an effort to maintain that course it’s in a great location and has a fun layout. Could be a real valuable asset to BR.
I worked on golf course grounds crews in college, some of the issues I have with maintenance of the course is pure laziness. Edge the bunkers, rake them, or fill them in. Cut down and maintain trees/bushes. Edge around ponds. Mow the damn rough consistently. It’s not hard, have some pride in your work. Yeah you need an expert for the greens but otherwise everything else is straightforward

I think it is part of LSU recreation, so it is supported by the student rec fee.

Covid gonna buy it some time. It’s open until LSU decides what it’s gonna use the land for and wants to spend the money. Until then, it’ll stay a goat ranch & over flow parking for Bama & UF. Nothing like parking cars on the 9th fairway lol

Ironically, 9 is probably one of the best kept(by LSU standard) holes out there

No you don't. Seriously.

I hope not.
Louisiana is a great weather state for golf - we need courses staying open - not closing.

They’ve been trying to close this course since Christ was a boy.

I’ll do my part to keep it open now that Santa Maria is charging $12 for a bucket of range balls.

I’m not a huge fan of Santa Maria, but it’s the closest course so I would at least go to their range once a week or so. Ever since they put in the turf range I’ve been exclusively going to LSU.

LSU’s range is solid imo. So is the short game area. Or at least it was when I was there in 2019

I walked the front 9 this afternoon. Pretty good shape tee to green, for winter, and no budget. The only downside was the greens are bare dirt 80%. Not sure what happened but they seemed to have lost the grass. It’s trying to come back. Still fun and it’s probably what it was like the 30’s 40’s with bare “rolled” greens. That said, it cost me $13 and change to walk all I could, and this includes 50 cent bag of tees and a $4 club brush. I just walked right on. Go play because there are some really cool holes, especially the front 9.
