I think of this one as the Goodfellas of westerns.

Big cast, big hype, average movie.

I totally agree with you about Tombstone. It's a pretty hokey movie. I do not agree with the comp to Goodfellas. That's an all timer baw.

Unforgiven is the GOAT.

The Searchers is the greatest, but OJW and Unforgiven are maybe a count hair away. I give it to The Searchers simply because of the way it was shot. You get a lot of those big vista shots of the west in many of the key scenes. The cabin silhouette shot of John Wayne with monument valley opening up is an all time classic shot. Otherwise , I could watch those three and The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallence on a non stop loop everyday.

Ditto. Tombstone has a collection of Hollywood pretty boys posing and re-enacting a collection of western cliches. If you turn off the dialogue, it looks like a comedy.

Tombstone is quite possibly the faggiest western I have ever seen.

But I also disagree with the OP. Clint Eastwood did star in the greatest western ever made, but it is called The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
