2021 Offense (Johnson) vs 2021 Offense (Finley)

Give me Finley all day long. The competition for starting QB next year needs to be real. Throw 2020 out the window. I detect a Johnson bias at the moment. DO NOT dispose of Finley! This kid is too powerful to overlook.

If he goes out there and impresses the new o coordinator and wins the job then so be it. But you have to be in denial to not admit Johnson outplayed Finley this year.

No one wants to dispose of Finley, but the biggest stat is Max is 2-0. Secondary stat is 1 turnover vs Finley's 6. Brennan is still the day 1 starter if he is healthy for spring. Competition should be open I agree.

They were 2 young studs coming out the gate. You’ll see lots of change from 2020 to 2021. I think you’ll see a lot of maturity and poise coming from Finley next year…

Johnson has the maturity and poise now.

Pocket awareness alone was head over heals better with Max. TJ is a physical specimen, but to me (for what it’s worth) he always looked like a statue in the pocket. We all seen what BDJ did with the ability to slide in the pocket. All for OPEN competition, may the best man win! GEAUX Tigers.
Merry Christmas Tiger nation!

There is no competition. Myles Brennan is our quarterback and will be a damn good one next season.

Poise and temperament is what Finley needs to work on most. He definitely has the arm to fit throws into tight windows. He also played against better defensive opponents. Johnson doesn't have Finley's arm but does have better poise, pocket awareness and escapabilty than Finley at this point in their development

misspelling aside, I don't think you know what this phrase means.

The thread title led me to believe there would be actual stats and analysis here. Very disappointing, OP.

The only certainty I have regarding the QB position in 2021 is that no matter who the starter is half the fan base will be waiting for him to make a mistake to scream for the backup.

Max beat Florida in the Swamp. First Start. TJ had a bad South Carolina team. First Start. Second Start Max made plays and great decisions. TJ got skulldrug. Max can move. TJ cannot. Max got NFL coaching up to this point. TJ did not. Max shows signs of...... Well! Made my point. I DO NOT CARE who it is. Max deserves the shot. BTW before Myles too.

Biggest difference is Johnson simply manages the game better. Another large factor that isn’t mentioned nearly enough, Johnson is an actual running QB and he runs far more than Finely. IMO, Johnson has some intangibles Finley does not have.

If the biggest stat is 2-0 why would Brennan who is 1-2 be the day one starter.

U all can wine all u want but Max is the man if Brennan is not back!

Max has had better coaching since a toddler. It is not surprising that he outperformed Finley out the gate. I do look for Finley to make the bigger jump as a sophomore. Will it be enough?
I will say that if Finley gets the protection and more time with the WR's and coaching, he will hard to stop. That big arm, combined with his quick release and size will be hard to stop. One thing Max has that Finley doesn't is his ability to run. Nuss will bring that to the table as well and Nuss is very accurate on the run as well.

These two guys bring different things to the table.
Finley has stronger arm and good vision out of the pocket. Cons are he does not protect the ball and he is not currently a good scrambler.
Johnson does not throw the long shots well but he has good vision and ability to scramble. Extending plays was one of Burrow's biggest attributes and of the 3 QBs we have MJ is the best at it. Johnson was best at keeping drives alive.
All of our QBs would benefit from our WR's practicing the catching drills all summer long.

I agree, its what they accomplish in the off season that will determine their success.
Finley needs to work on putting touch on short route passes.
Supposedly he is a dedicated hard worker. He has natural ability but there is work to be done.

I just hope we can keep both of them. In my opinion Max is the more polished QB at this time. He is better at reading D and is more mobile. TJ has the stronger arm and I believe more upside. I think he could use a little more time to learn defenses but doubt he would wait. They are both very good in their own right.
