It’s hard to judge someone off of what they did at Vandy. He was a good DC at Stanford years ago. But they’ve been bad the last couple years on defense at Vandy. But supposedly players love him. I’m kind of conflicted.

IDk how hands on he was at Vandy defensively, but Vandy's D has been atrocious.

ETA: Vandy under Mason. 2020 Vandy/LSU are basically the same stats Defensively.

Year----Total D--Pass D--Rush D--YPP--Pts
2014------69------50--------87---------82-----106
2015------27------40--------33---------37------22
2016------64------83--------56---------84------36
2017------66------26--------102---------85-----89
2018------99------85--------94---------102-----60
2019------101------66--------115------118-----96
2020------122------120-------93-------125-----112

Don't be

Even by Vanderbilt standards, his defenses were terrible.

It’s more of a morale locker room get Ryan Clark off my arse type hire, but if O doesn’t get the locker room back the best scheming DC won’t matter.

O doing what he has to do to survive.

God, I hope not. I don't think we need those kinds of salaries these head coach rejects will demand.

YOUNG guns. That's what's needed

Unless it’s a 15 year old who is on the shadow staff of a 7 v 7 jr. high football team shutting down offenses, the rant will not like the hire.

I don’t like it as a pc hire
If he’s best for job than fine
If it’s appeasing former players than it’s the beginning of the end for coach o
The day we let former players run the show is the day this program goes back to the hallman days
Saban would never let anyone dictate a hire

He was on the coaches broadcast of the national championship game last year and his commentary was impressive.

My biggest question is who would coach Lb’s? Mason has only coached DB’s on defense, and of course Raymond staying so do they split secondary and hire a LB coach?

Better not be a failed Coach. If O doesn’t get the hires right this time, then he is out.

Then why are his defenses so bad...

You’re an ex-DC and your teams had no defensive pride.
