He was the DC at Vandy at times. I will never hold failing at Vandy against a head coach if you are looking to hire them as a coordinator.

People (as I have in the past) point to Vandy's horrible defenses under Mason, but I was corrected on here and told the one year he took over DC responsibilities for the team, Vandy had a top 25 defense.

I think Mason would be a decent hire, but not some homerun. He was much worse at recruiting to Vanderbilt than his predecessor James Franklin, who proved you can recruit there somewhat decently.

I agree with you on this. I just feel uneasy overall about him, outside of Vandy. That job is a blackhole.
