Heads Up: Here Comes the “New COVID Strain”

Just to give y’all advance warning: we’re about to be told the Covid vaccine - that arrived in record time - will not allow us to reopen as planned because Corona has mutated.
They will tell us the new Corona strain is more contagious, worse symptoms, and is immune to the vaccine.
Shutdown: extended indefinitely.
Funny though, as I remember an NPR segment months back where a virologist said that most viruses lose their severity over time (otherwise they would kill all their hosts which would cause the virus to go extinct). He predicted COVID would ultimately end up being a part of our annual cold/flu season.

Just in time to make some people cancel their Christmas plans.

Of course it is.

This vaccine will (should) work regardless of "covid strain."

Agreed. But that’s not what we’re going to hear from the news media and our governors shortly.

Scientists have warned the new variant is up to 50 per cent more contageous than any strain detected before. It is understood Mr Johnson was presented with new data about the new strain of the virus at the meeting on Friday night.

Why? Honestly curious. That’s not how the flu vaccine works.

Yep. They’re already running with it in London.

They become part of the genome.

Mutation is one of nature's normal, standard innovation patterns. Viruses naturally do it. Viruses are which mutate into things which destroy their spawning grounds need more help to succeed than viruses which make their spawning grounds immortal. Currently, I don't know of any viruses which convey any power-ups; but we know plenty that will ruin our health.
"They", the viruses, won't tell us anything. A virus abides its nature because it cannot think, learn and decide. They only obey the laws of chemistry and quantum mechanics.
If you deem proliferation to be a measure of natural success, then the best parasites and free loaders ones are those that go undetected or effectively act as a symbiot instead. Taking sentient life (us) out of the equation, viruses that wipe out their host populated would accurately be regarded as evolutionary-retarded and mass-systemically-self-genocidal.
TL;DR: The Laws of Nature allow it, but the probability is remote. Nature is dumb, but usually not that dumb.

Because this isn't the flu.
