Would Steele be a worse or better hire than O?

LSU got a lot of flak for hiring O due to his failure at Ole Miss. Steele was awful at Baylor. Ignoring what he’s done at LSU since which hire is better/worse O in 2016 or potentially Steele in 2020?

Would be hard to be any worse

I still think O was a poor hire, but he actually showed some success at USC as an interim and then at LSU.
Steele's HCing experience is downright awful and he has never shown any improvement.
So, I'd say on paper it is worse.

Coach O had just come off a successful run as USC interim coach, was established as one of the best recruiters in the nation, had a very good class at LSU that he could be saved, and had Dave Aranda locked up at DC. It's not really that close, if you have all the facts.

Correct.
Ed was actually a better HC than Steele, if you can believe it. And after his Ole Miss stint he continued to be an excellent DL coach and had 2 strong interim stints.
Steele has been a so so DC since then and has no interim experience that I’m aware of.

Even if he 8-4’d most of the time, KS is 63years old.
We need someone in their late 40s, maybe early fifties at the oldest.
You’d like to hire a guy for 10 or 15 years.
IF he has success, Steele might coach until 70. IF.....

Better. More qualified for sure

Well, I don’t know that he’d be better but my fear with Ed O all along has been that he needs 2 good coordinators for it to work. With Steele, he at least is competent as a defensive play caller. If you are successful, someone is coming in and poaching your assistants annually. The model for Ed O’s success seems to be Dabo. Dabo has been able to keep a DC because he ended up with a guy in Venables who seems to be satisfied with where he is at, so Dabo has only had to replace offensive coordinators.
