8-4 in a ‘normal’ season

With the win over Uf and a win over Ole Miss we would be looking at an apples to apples season of 8-4 assuming the 3 gimme games. That’s what the is year is. Nothing more, nothing less.

5 losses means we would be 7-5 at best in the regular season Champ

Should have beaten mizzou and state
W Max we likely beat A&M
Auburn and Bama were going to be blowouts

I actually think 7-5
Take away Mizzou loss
Take away Vandy win
Add Texas Loss
Add 3 creampuff wins
But your point remains... in a normal season this wouldn’t have looked as disastrous as it has...none of us would have been happy with 7-5 or 8-4, but it wouldn’t have felt as much like a dumpster fire as it has
And this is debatable, but I don’t think we would have lost to MissSt had it not been the first game out the gate. So if that outcome flips it actually does get us to 8-4

You'd take out Mizzou and Vandy in a normal season, so we're 4-4, assuming an Ole Miss win. Add in the usual non-conference games, and 8-4 or 7-5 sounds about right.

While no one would be happy with this, if this were a normal season and Myles was lost for the year, I don't think 7-5/8-4 would be horrible after all the lost players from last year.

You guys can’t read or are just ignorant.
Original schedule normal season and we would be 8-4 or worse case 7-5 if we had lost to Texas.
Wins - South Carolina, Arkansas, UF, Ole Miss, Rice, UT San Antonio, Texas, Nichols St
Losses - Alabama, Miss St, Auburn, A&M

This is my point. Let’s be fair on what the ‘season’ really is.

Oh I totally agree
7-5 or 8-4 would have felt like a “normal” step back down season after the player losses
At 7-5 or 8-4 none of us would have ever entered “burn it all down” mode like we have at points this year
Damn Covid

We gave up nearly 650 yards again last night.
This is, at best, a 6-6 team with this defense.

I don't think nearly as many players opt out in a normal year either. I still think we need some major staff adjustments though

Look at the ACTUAL original pre-Covid schedule compared to the ACTUAL on-field results from this season.
That’s his point, and The OP is correct. With a win over Ole Miss, the record would have been 7-5 or 8-4

that's possible but we would not have played 10 SEC games and one of the extra games was Missiouri. There's no way to know of course but does the Miss State game go the same way if we played them in the middle of the year vs week 1?
I thought after last year with all we lost and the schedule, particularly with Florida A&M and Auburn on the road and Bama that 9-3 was the ceiling, 8-4/7-5 very likely.

Mizzou was not on original schedule
Neither was Vandy

How different is everything if we win even one of miss st or mizzou

I will never accept that LSU loses that game to AtM with Myles Brennen at QB. With Brennan playing that game could have been over by half time. I wouldn't even discount beating Auburn with Brennan at QB.
Now Miss St. and Mizz are all on the defense and a hurting Brennan at the end.
But I suspect if we had kept Aranda for this year, we are rolling into Ole Miss at a possible 8-1 with a loss to Bama certainly not likely as bad as it was.
I know, these are a lot of ifs. But just a healthy Brennan and we're looking at a very possible 7-3 season and possibly a Major Bowl game.

Texas wasn’t playing very well early in the season either and with a healthy Brennan it would have been a shootout so it’s a 50/50 game in my opinion.
Also in a normal year Chase is on the field in that game.

LSU was at more of a disadvantage this year than most. On top of all the lost players, a new defensive scheme with no spring or offseason.
If we played our regular schedule, you would've seen no players quit. We may have lost to Texas, but we wouldn't have lost to State or Missouri.
I think 8-4/7-5 would've been likely. Again, not acceptable, but understandable.
