Well, they did, so what the frick are you gonna do about it? Send in some nasty emails to the AP voters? Quit buying their newspapers? I'm sure your protest will be felt nation-wide.

Those guys only know that we lost Flynn, Dorsey, Hester,Doucet, Highsmith, Steltz and both corners. Those are the players who got the notoriety last year. Media guys don't realize that we have recruited well and that Francois, Alexander, Nevis, and Woods are ready, along with some great DEs. They just haven't made the headlines on a consistent basis. In addition, unless you followed LSU you probably don't understand the progress made by Byrd and LaFell at receiver and Jones at about any position on the defense

You're exactly right. And I don't think that's an indictment of the media either. Most of them cover a lot more sports throughout the year, and they can't possibly familiarize themselves with every team's 2nd and 3rd string guys every year. We know about them because they are who we follow.

I know the cool thing to do is not give voters credit for knowing anything, but I bet many of them know more than we think.

Turn back the clock one year. We lost much of our offensive fire power and 3 1st rounders ... JR, Bowe, and Davis. If they didn't pay attention, they would not have ranked us so high to start the year.

It is interesting. I find it funny that an issue for LSU does not seem to be an issue for other teams. USC and others can have new players at key positions and it's not a problem. LSU was questioned last year because we had a "new" QB in Matt Flynn. We wound up winning the NC.

There is a ring of truth in your words, and most LSU fans deep down know that but if you say it you will be persecuted for being overly sensitive. No way should Ohio State be ranked so damn high after being embarrassed the past two years, playing in a weak overall conference. To win a championship you got to have a smart qb, Hatch is smart and would not be in the position he is if he was not up to the task athletically or otherwise.

Well, it's not like we're ranked #20 this year. QB is usually the biggest factor in determining these things. Last year we had a 5th year senior with a lot more experience than a typical 1st year starter. Let's take a look at the 6 teams ranked ahead of LSU:

1) Georgia--Stafford will be a 3rd year starter

2) Ohio State--Boeckman started last year and led Ohio State to the Big X championship and NC game

3) USC--have 2 guys who were ranked #1 in their respective classes and who have about 10 career starts between them

4) Oklahoma--Bradford is a big, strong QB who had one of the best freshman seasons ever by quarterback

5)Florida--Tebow won the Heisman

6)Missouri--Chase Daniel was a Heisman finalist.

If ya'll can't see that all 6 of those QB situations are much more desirable than the one we have, you're crazy.

OSU returns 20 starters, they're gonna be really good despite what has happened in the title game the past two years. you rantards are too sensitive. being 6/7 in the polls is fine considering the HUGE question at QB and the other losses

You seem to be one of about...hmm...3 reasonable LSU fans on here. Your forum brethren have been drinking the bandwagon koolaid since '03 and believe "their" team shouldn't ever be out of the number 1 spot, win or lose.

Wish there were more posters on here like you. These tigerdropping douchebags really bring much shame and embarrassment to your school.

O'really Georgia fan, and who was drinking the koolaide last year my friend...now that is down right hilarious that a Bulldawg fan is going to come to an LSU fan site and preach to us about drinking the koolaid.

As far as Ohio State is concerned we hear the same crap year in and year out, all that Big Ten Talent coming back, blah, blah, blah....prove it on the field by atleast trying to win a game against the SEC once every decade....blah, blah, blah.....I can hear the chant now.... OVERRATED, OVERRATED.....LOL

We are high enough in the AP and Coaches (and only the latter matters) that if we take care of business, things will take care of themselves. USC or OSU is guaranteed a loss. Oklahoma or Missouri (ahead of us in the AP, but not Coaches)is guaranteed a loss. We play Florida and UGA, and they play each other, either team is guaranteed one loss, and if we do our job, one will have at least one loss and one will have 2.

If we have a loss or losses then timing of a loss or losses is critical. Among the top 7-8 teams, the team that loses last most likely will be out (though a conference championship game can help mitigate a late loss as we know). There is no 2003 OU "best ever" team out there that can survive a late season loss, unless we have another weird season like 2007.

But 6 or 7 isn't bad at all right now. And 6 in the coaches is much more important than 7 in the AP. I think they may have it about right going into the season. One thing we know. What we see now will not be what we see by seasons end.

Last year seemed to show that the voters may becoming more flexible in ranking, less lock step voting. If we play to our potential, that could help us in the event of a 3 way tie at the top and we take care of Florida, Auburn, and UGA and the SECCG (the latter being a must win and 2 of 3 of the others being required to have a shot as well).

I am really ok with the preseason ranking for LSU, its Ohio State that bugs me the most...year in and year out it is the ole crap with OS, and for that matter Oklahoma...They both play in very weak conferences overall, and get blown out in the NC, but every year they are right back in the top 5, especially Ohio State.....

I am not sure exactly how I feel about OSU right now. We tend to forget that last year's team was a pretty young team which wasn't expected to be in the BCS game last year at the beginning of the season. They made a lot of critical errors in the BCS game that cost them dearly. And while LSU also made some mistakes, I think without those crucial penalties, the game would have been somewhat closer than it was. LSU was clearly the better team, but OSU may not have been as bad as they made themselves look at times.

They were picked to finish 3rd in the Big 10 in 2007. Most prognosticators were looking toward this year as being the year to watch out for OSU. The Big 10 competition is questionable again this year. But I do think OSU will probably be a strong contender, especially if they beat or stay close to USC.

We should get a pretty good measure in the USC-OSU game.

I think that the "lack of respect" being given to LSU serves them well. It certainly motivates. The only thing that bothers me is the Dawg Turds like StaffordNation coming on here and acting like they have something, like they proved something. The greatest joy of this football season will be the implosion formally known as UGA! Oh enjoy this until the season starts

enjoy

being ranked where we are preseason prolly wont matter, but could. With a season as crazy as last years, the slightest of things could make a difference in the end . . . . .

has there ever been a Def Champ with a 1st yr starter at QB like Hatch?

Wouldn't just about any national champion with a senior quarterback have a first year starter the following year (when they are defending champions)?
