quote:Exactly right. Again, and forgive me if this is repetitious, but for the sarcastic "ESPN hates us" crowd, it's not a matter of ESPN "hating us". It's a matter of misreporting, factual errors, and not understanding the team, the depth, the coaching staff, and the new incoming players to a degree that they can CREDIBLY report the actual status of LSU football. They get LOTS of stuff wrong, lots. They brown-nose USC and other big media teams to get all of the info they can about them, overrate them every year, and then get little or no information about LSU (and a few other small market teams), and MIS-REPORT the facts about those teams.
You're exactly right. And I don't think that's an indictment of the media either. Most of them cover a lot more sports throughout the year, and they can't possibly familiarize themselves with every team's 2nd and 3rd string guys every year. We know about them because they are who we follow.
It's not about hate, it's about incompetence.

It is interesting. I find it funny that an issue for LSU does not seem to be an issue for other teams. USC and others can have new players at key positions and it's not a problem. LSU was questioned last year because we had a "new" QB in Matt Flynn. We wound up winning the NC.
thats been my argument since the start of all this. USC is replacing just as many if not more positions then we are yet everyone has them balls deep in their throat.

Yea I'll come across as a homer but WTF? Don't come with the QB excuses either, guarantee other DefChamp lost players like the Tigers
Don't do that. If you ,as an LSU fan defend the Tigers, you are a 'rantard'.If you were really informed, you would pick apart everything seemingly good about LSU and focus on the bad.

We lost 2 1st round WR's, a #1 QB in the draft, and a 1st round safety before last season and started the season at what....#2? It not's gonna be that way every year.

I am really ok with the preseason ranking for LSU, its Ohio State that bugs me the most...year in and year out it is the ole crap with OS, and for that matter Oklahoma...They both play in very weak conferences overall, and get blown out in the NC, but every year they are right back in the top 5, especially Ohio State.....
We started #13 last year.

I am not sure exactly how I feel about OSU right now. We tend to forget that last year's team was a pretty young team which wasn't expected to be in the BCS game last year at the beginning of the season. They made a lot of critical errors in the BCS game that cost them dearly. And while LSU also made some mistakes, I think without those crucial penalties, the game would have been somewhat closer than it was. LSU was clearly the better team, but OSU may not have been as bad as they made themselves look at times.
They were picked to finish 3rd in the Big 10 in 2007. Most prognosticators were looking toward this year as being the year to watch out for OSU. The Big 10 competition is questionable again this year. But I do think OSU will probably be a strong contender, especially if they beat or stay close to USC.
We should get a pretty good measure in the USC-OSU game.
Please stop, logic and truth isn't allowed on the rant.

has there ever been a Def Champ with a 1st yr starter at QB like Hatch?
There have been plenty.

It seems to me that very few at ESPN respect LSU and give proper credit to the program. But that is understandable. ESPN sucks hind tit on it's ability to televise LSU and the SEC.
CBS Sports is big competition for ESPN and has first dibs on all SEC games. Every time an SEC game is televised on CBS, ESPN loses substantial numbers of viewers. The same can't be said for the Big 12 and the PAC 10, which have their games televised by FSN. I don't even believe that FSN also only gets the left-overs. Judging by the games that they televise here in MN, their selection sucks!
It is not in ESPN's interest to hype LSU and the SEC!! So, we put up with Mark May and Lou Holtz and the other dilberts that write columns for them.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbarf.gif)

ESPN's analysts and commentators gave us our fair share of credit on air and Gameday came to our place twice.
I'm not sure it's realistically possible for them to give LSU the credit some of our fans who post on here would be satisfied with.

Are you talking about the Va Tech game, where we smoked a highly rated team, and had to listen to the jock sniffers pump USC. It may not be as bad as some fans say, but it is there. It seems to always come down to an either/or type of comments.

when i was still an athlete we had this saying in our sport "you're only as good as your last race"...well, if that applies here, need i say more?

I don't think it applies here, nor anywhere else except for bandwagon fans who turn on THEIR winners who lost the last game.

Half of you are reasonable fans...the other half of you are just a bunch of women.
So, like men have been asking women for ages...
WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT???
For a school that has only one Heisman Trophy winner and has won 3 titles in 50 years, LSU gets more than enough respect from everyone.

With our schedule
That line of thinking is most of the problem with the whole preseason ranking....
They should be ranking on their talent level and depth in camparison to all of the other teams in the nation. As the games are played the strength of schedule will pan out as it will. There is no need for someone to take guesses at a schedules outcome...the games will do that. If everyone would simply rank the preseason based on skill sets instead of trying to be fricking Nastradamus. With that thought process in mind LSU should easily be in the top 3 but some dicknoses want to pretend like they can predict the future...

Everyone hear acts like OU and OSU have NEVER won a BCS Championship. Sure they've lost 2 each, and looked really bad in 3 of those, but they also won 2 of those.
Also, last year's OSU team overachieved. It's not like they started the year ranked high. They weren't expected to do that good, so the logic doesn't really follow.

LSU was pre-season #2 last year after losing arguably the best QB in all of football in 2006.
It looks like LSU IS one of those teams that it isn't an issue for.
Your logic is flawed there.
