ALEXANDER - WOODS - NEVIS

Who is the best of the three ?
Alexander - was hurt all last year so I don't know much about his abilities.
Woods - IS this really big guy who hasn't impressed me other than being "a really big guy". Watching him play last year, I thought he looked slow.
Nevis - Young buck. Looks stout. Don't know much about him either.
Thoughts?

Woods is going to dominate this year, imho.

They are all at a diffrent point in their college careers and diffrent types of DTs. Woods is a block eating run stopper while Nevis is a quick step penetrating DT. Alexander is kind of the hybrid and coming off the injury.
Alexander is a RS Senior, Woods is a true Junior and Nevis is a true Soph.
IMHO, I think Nevis has the most potential and upside of the three, but Alexander if healthy might be the best right now.

They are all excellent. The DL should be scary good this year, maybe even better than last year.

like our running backs we have a great stable of D-lineman. And the way that we are recruiting i think it will continue.

+1
I thought Woods looked good the little bit he got to play as far as taking on blockers while Nevis more often than not seemed to find himself in the opposing backfield, can't wait to see more of these two alongside RJF and a healthy Alexander

Scouts have been at the practices for a couple of players, RJF, Byrd, Big Herm, etc. I have heard from some of the media guys attending practices, really just some of the scrubs that get told to go to the practices for 15 min. so the paper can write about what they "saw", that Woods has caught their eye with his "quickness" and size..so he isn't slow according to some..

LEE - HATCH - JEFFERSON
Who you got as the holder on extra points? Flynn is gonna be tough to replace as the holder.

2007 Season for Charles Alexander per LSUSPORTS.net
quote:
Started first three games at defensive tackle alongside All-American Glenn Dorsey before an injury to his right knee the week of the South Carolina game sidelined him for the rest of the year

There was actually a play where Woods looked really quick. It was against UK and he ran a RB down down the LOS and hit him and caused a fumble that went outta bounds. Although according to the stats on lsusports.net he didn't have any FF, nor did we force any that game. But the box score says UK fumbled 3 times.

A forced fumble only counts as such if the defense recovers it.

Woods is projected as nose tackle at the next level. Pro scouts think highly of him. A good season and he goes Pro. Good NTs are hard to come by in the NFL.
Alexander does not do anything spectacular, but does everything well: good run defense, protects the linebackers, can get pressure up the middle. He is likely to get last year back but we won't know until the end of the season.
Nevis is a quick penetrating DT. He is in the mold of Dorsey. Plays low and blows up plays. With so much talent ahead of him, it will be hard to see much action this year but he needs to gain experience as he could be the "old man" of the DTs next year.
There is a chance LSU loses seven "7" from the D-line next year: RJF (leaves early), Jackson, Johnson, Pittman, Favorite, Alexander (if he doesn't get his year back) and Woods (if he goes early). If it happens, next year will be interesting as Davenport, Downs and (fill in the blank: Sentimore, McFarland, ?) will surely get major playing time.

If I was any of those guys, I wouldn't go early, because they aren't ready yet.
I would probably put FAVORITE ahead of WOODS, I forgot about that dude.
I'm thinking NEVIS will mold into something salty this season, and RICKY JEAN with his freak abilities will fill Dorsey's hole.
RJF played better than Dorsey in th BCS game, but I will give DORSEY slack as he had a gimp knee.

Woods is in great shape for someone as big as he is.

RJF is definitely ready and gone after the season. Woods goes early depending on the season. A good year and he goes in the 2nd round. A great year and he's a late 1st rounder. Anything less and he returns for his senior season. I hope he stays but he's receiving a lot of praise from the coaches.
