Over the past decade there have been 8 TE drafted in rd 1. Listed below is each player-freshman receptions-final year receptions. In Summary over a 12 game schedule the avg of all these players their freshman year was 16.75 receptions with the most being 27 by Tyler eifert. Final season avg is 49.6 with the most being 65 by Evan engram.

Hockinson-24-49
Fant-9-39
Hurst-8-44
Howard-14-45
Engram-21-65
Njoku-21-43
Ebron-10-62
Eifert-27-50

Through 8 games Arik has 35 catches and in a normal 12 game season would be on pace for 52 receptions essentially doubling the best TE freshman season in this comparison.

Someone may correct me here but I believe Jalen Wydermyer has the most receptions from a FRESHMAN TE in SEC history at 32 in 12 games. Arik has broken that in 8.

UGA signed a 5 star TE last year too who has 2 receptions this year.

Clearly this isn't a usage issue.

Homesick/covid restrictions, scheme, or culture may be the reason here but it seems his HS teammate Olujari is happy in BR so is it a culture thing? Scheme can be tweaked this off-season.

Not sure what else you could ask for as a freshman TE regardless of how high you were rated.

Imagine how many more catches he'd have if our slapdick coordinators actually got him involved the whole game.

I just hate to see gilbert get wasted like we’ve done with so many players in the past

He has a long career ahead. I don't see him being wasted if he stayed at LSU. He is just a freshman and honestly his game needed to toughen up in some areas anyway. Quitting after 8 games is a shame

stats stats, show me that heart. I need some grit, leadership, toughness. Not many Devin White's left. Respeck my opinion!

ETA: Where are the stats for Kittle, Kelce, Waller, Ertz, Higbee, Hooper? Stats and draft position doesn't matter. Got to want it and work hard. Can't give up so easy.

You can’t pump a kid up saying we will use him like the Lions use Megatron and don’t follow through. Sometimes O just needs to keep his mouth shut and stop with the unrealistic jargon. You can’t be out here selling dreams.

Compare him to Pitts. Much better comparison of the type of talent AG posses. He is not a “normal” TE and should not be used as one. Kid is Hernandez (less the psychopath tendencies ) and Pitts type player. He should be lined up everywhere possible to create mismatches. He should have 10 targets a game. I am much more forgiving of the defensive lapses for many reasons. I have zero understanding of the multiple game changing coaching lapses on offenses. We can start with Miss St and 0-13 on third down , progress to four failed attempts to score from the 1 at Missouri, the 4th and 1 Saturday and the lack of use of AG. The defense is so bad it makes y’all forget about the offense. The lack of creativity and poor play calling on offense cost us Miss St and Missouri. It took us out of being competitive with both Auburn and Alabama. It absolutely killed us against A&M and in my opinion cost us a win or close game.

Pitts had 3 rec as a freshman and 54 last year in 13 games. Arik in a normal season would have had a bigger year than pitts last year. This year pitts has 36 in 7 games vs arik with 35 in 8. Downfield play is the big difference here but brennan was throwing to him down field the first 4 games. People hated on brennan but he brought the whole field into play. The freshman dont. Yet.

Fact is there is no leadership on this team from top to bottom.

Freshmen more than anyone need leadership from the players. When the coaches don't show it, and there is no player to provide it in the void, these youngsters are going to feel unhappy. Winning can cure those ills, but when your team has turned into a clown show, these things will just be made worse.

Again, O is horrible at actually developing leaders. That was largely done by Aranda on the defensive side of the ball, and Brady along with Burrow made that leap last year.

That is one reason this team is falling apart with the losses of players from last year. Its not talent or ability, it is piss poor development in leadership by O and company.

That was an initial response rumor because of their relationship. Some said there were a few more to come and that may be true but there has been no negative news about BJ and people are saying he is happy and knows he is the starter for the next two years there. A move to UGA for him would put him in a LB role, not a DE role. The other rumored transfers are a back up OL that likely will never see the field and a CB who is talented but buried on the depth chart at this time.

He’s not wasted at all. He’s getting more targets than any TE in the country outside of Kyle Pitts. The SEC has never had a TE with his kind of production as a true freshman 8 games into a season.

Our usage of Gilbert has been so weird all year.

Its like we will have drive where we will force the ball to him every throw, then we forget about him for 3 quarters, then have another drive where we remember we have a freak athlete on the field and force the ball to him 4 straight times again.

I'd be frustrated as well if I was him because I, as a fan, have been frustrated with his usage, despite his stats.

This was another rant over reaction. The only two names that seem to have legs are an o linemen and a corner.

We need to let freshman be freshman. We shouldn’t need a freshman class to come in and save the day. We are a big time program these freshman shouldn’t sniff the field until their jr year and if you really good your 2nd year. It’s always been our downfall

Or if had Brennan instead of two true freshman QB’s?

Really? So you don't think that Stingley should have started last year?

Best players should be playing. Doesn't matter if they're a freshman or a fifth year senior.
