Got my Christmas present early...

Apparently my dad went out and got me an Odyssey CHG90 49” gaming monitor. Arrived last night and hooked into my PC. Got it on a 580 at the moment.
A couple of questions:
Anyone played any games that can support that large of an aspect ratio (32:9)?
Who all has had a chance to compare the 3000 series nVidia cards to the current Radeon series? I know I want to upgrade to take full advantage of this behemoth.

i was told to get the Radeon card. the extra VRAM will thank you.

That's a 1080p monitor, so really just get whatever one comes in stock and you can purchase. Radeon tends to do better at 1080/1440.

Good luck even finding any of these.
ETA: Or any of the Radeon 6k series as well. Bots are still snapping up cards as they're released and go straight to eBay.

Sort of. It still pushes 3840.

Ultrawide 1080p is 2560x1080, on those huge ones they combine two together that is why you see 3840x1080. The resolution is still 1080.
The newer model of that monitor the C9G is 1440p though, it's 5120x1440 aka two 1440p panels together.

This. If you wanted 4k and raytracing there is a good argument for nvidia but for price/performance in raster AMD is the pick. Probably will be easier to find going forward as well.

It might not be 4k, but it's still impressive in the color compared to the 27" I had before.
Considering I do as much work (probably a lot more these days) than gaming at home, I admit it was nice to get a chance to try that portion out as well. Had a 3 monitor setup originally; turned the other two smaller ones vertical and set them on either side. Probably going to use my 27" for my wife's setup.

So fricking frustrating.
Got back into PC building a year ago and had no idea about the state of video cards. So amazingly fustrating.

What's weird about is that the 580 I got was right before the bots started grabbing them for mining. The same card I bought for a couple hundred, I could have resold for several hundred apparently (but chose not to because then, you know... no video card).

I was excited to be able to grab a 1060 6GB when I did, and it was a years old card at that point. Not even sure if I can run Cyberpunk on it.

Of course a 1060 can run Cyberpunk. A 760 can run Cyberpunk

Oh I'm sure it's still quite the experience, was just specifying for gpu power.

Fair. It was a lot of fun playing Overwatch on it, but OW doesn't support that aspect ratio. I think it was using about 2/3 of the monitor, tops.
I think I read somewhere that Subnautica actually supports it, and I own that. So I might load it up and see what that looks like.

Unless you are playing at 4k or using VR, nothing currently comes close to using 10gb of vram. At 1080p through 1440p Ultra Wide, the only thing thanking you will be AMD for buying extra vram that you'll never use.

21:9 is pretty easy to come by at this point, but 32:9 is incredibly niche. There are a few sites that give detailed info on UW compatibility. Search around, but this is one: LINK
But you should know going in that you're simply going to have to play some games with black bars on the side.

Your monitor's resolution is 3840x1080, which pushes 4,147,200 pixels. For context, here are some common resolutions and pixel counts:
3840 x 2160 = 8,294,400
3440 x 1440 = 4,953,600
2560 x 1440 = 3,686,400
1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600
As you can see, your pixel count is right in the middle of standard 1440p and 1440p 21:9 UW, and less than half the pixels of standard 4k. So to help you make your decision on cards, look up some of the benchmarks for the games you play/want to play, and see how the cards benched at 1440p. You won't get quite that, but you won't be crazy far off. And with your textures at 1080p, even the lowest vram count in this generation (8gb) will likely be about twice what you ever need.
Take that for what you will, or if you want to post the games you generally play, we can see about giving you more detailed advice.

Price wise you aren’t paying more for the vram though.
You have to decide if DLSS or RTX is important to you in currently. AMD is gonna need time to catch up there. That’s the reason to go nvidia currently. If not the AMD is a better buy.

CDPR actually released a really detailed spec sheet that I hope becomes the norm going forward:

Considering how good DLSS 2.0, that's a huge caveat. And with DLSS 2.0, RTX is becoming a legitimate feature. But even still, while it depends on which performance bracket you want to be in, even if you ignore DLSS and RTX, AMD just isn't much, if any, better on rasterized price to performance ratios. This is queued at 1440p, but 1080p is just before it and 4k is just after:
