Why is Harry Coleman not starting

DD list Jones as starting safety. I thought coleman was doing well and building on his performance in the championship game.

Is McCray in the picture at all? I think he'd be better as a safety with Jones as the nickel back.

McCray is the backup FS i think...he'll play a lot though like last year

Thats just DD's opinion. Expect CJ to be on the field all of the time and HC to be on the field most of the time.
HC will play mostly the traditional SS position where CJ will play a hybrid position according to CLM.

what I can make out of all of what I've read/heard:
STARTERS:
Curtis Taylor - Free Safety
Harry Coleman - Strong Safety
Jai Eugene - CB (with P2 pushing him HARD)
Chris Hawkins - CB
Chad Jones = nickel (which means he will play a ton)
Danny McCray = dime

I was reading the other day and Miles said that it was " a must" to have Chad Jones on the field and that it was a mistake by the coaches every play on defense that he was not on the field. Because of this, he said the defense have been playing more of a 2 LB set instead of 3 so that we can get both Harry Coleman and Jones out there

If CJ is your nickel. Where does that leave PP. I don't think he came to LSU to sit on the bench. You can't get paid in the NFL if you don't play. If his family uproots the family and moves to Baton Rouge. You can lock and load this assumption, PP will play alot.

so because P2's family moved here, you assume he will start the first game as a true freshman?
get realistic. P2 will play a ton at CB this season and has a good chance to supplant Jai by the Auburn game. But, no way P2 gets the nickel spot over Chad Jones.
And, as others have said, LSU will be living in the nickel a ton this season, so CJ is basically a starter anyway.

i would rather Jones play the nickel and when he does line peterson up at cb...he is just a freshmen and we havent seen him play a down of college football...he will get his time dont worry but i just cant see not having chad jones in at all times
