I have been finding games of properties that I like ( aliens, jurassic park, wolverine, ) and been having a blast. They're quite old

Saints Row 4 is one of my favorites. I like the super powers you get in the game...ability to basically fly with super strength and speed along with crazy guns and weapons.
I also really like the Prototype games. Similar to SR4 where you get cool super powers. Plus the unconstrained violence is a big plus for me.

What's interesting is there a ton of movies that get bad reviews that I enjoy, but almost no video games.
I think that's because video games are judged extremely leniently by critics compared to other mediums. Very generic, average games gets 7 or 8 out of 10 for example.
If a game has extremely poor critical reviews it's usually pretty god damn terrible.

SR4 is ok but gets a little too stupid with all the superpowers. SR3 does a better job of balancing the silliness without going overboard. I've enjoyed this whole series though. Also like the Just Cause games for some mindless fun.

Off the top of my head, Dishonored. I think it averaged like 7-8's in the reviews so its not critically acclaimed but a very good game imo.

SR4 does have some really great "frick yea!" moments though, like when you sing along with Pierce to Opposites Attract ( LINK ) or the Transformers the Movie References ( You Got the Touch )
I absolutely loved SR4's play through. So much fun.

Yeah we definitely need video game reviewers to spread this out more. It seems like every game runs between a 7 and a 10. It's like the other numbers don't exist.

Dragon Age II and Mass Effect Andromeda got shite on pretty heavily.
I didn’t hate them. DAII and the retread maps was a legitimate gripe, but there are some solid characters and overall narrative there. I didn’t play Andromeda until years after release. If it was the first release in the series and released in the patched state it eventually got to I think critics would have been infinitely more kind in how they viewed it.

I like the Batman Tellltale games. They were blasted by critics and fans for being just QTE cut scenes.
I still replay them every now and then and get a lot of enjoyment out of them.

Maybe so. I just went and looked on metacritic and it got better reviews than I thought. Still not critically acclaimed like a Zelda BoTW, Last of Us, Witcher 3, etc

Bard's Tale 4 - buggy when it came out but I thought it was lots of fun if you like turn based grid combat.
Pathfinder Kingmaker is probably the best CRPG ever made but it was a disaster when it came out. They fixed all of the bugs.
If you liked Stardew Valley, I don't see why you wouldn't love My Time at Portia but most folks didn't give it a chance. I think because of the cartoony graphics.
First 2 would have been much bigger hits if they had delayed release until all of the bugs were ironed out. Especially Pathfinder. Huge 150+ hour game but it had a ton of game ending bugs when it came out. Even though people were cool with the 8bit Stardew graphics. Retro beats out cartoony.
Bard's Tale 4 still has some minor combat issue but nothing game breaking.

Cost/time investment differences are more to cause imo. If the funny B-movie that was so bad it's good lasted 35 hours, you might not like it as much.
