Pac 12 as a P5 conference

Why do we distinguish the Pac 12 above G5 conferences like the American? The level of play isn't that much better, but if a Pac 12 team goes undefeated they are a shoe in for the playoff.

The amount of soy consumed on the West Coast is affecting their college football teams

The American is definitely a better football conference
Maybe not this season, but most seasons lately I'd agree.

I was just thinking about what CFB would look like if a real minor league/NFL development league gained traction and colleges were tasked with filling out football teams with whatever student athletes they could.
Then I figured it would probably look like the Pac 12.

The whole Power 5 model seems kind of outdated. The SEC pretty much dominates in on-field product and revenue generation, with the Big 10 and ACC distantly behind. Then the Big 12 and Pac 12 are more mid tier along with the AAC and a handful of other teams in lesser conferences. I think the Pac 12 has more in common with the Ivy League than the SEC, especially if you remove their easternmost schools.

Big 10 brings in more revenue than the SEC

quote:It reminds me of high school classifications. The SEC is 6A. The Big 10 and ACC are 5A. The Big 12 is like a private school division that’s hard to quantify. The PAC 12, AAC and Sunbelt are 4A. The rest of the G5 is 3A. FCS is 2A except for the SWAC and MEAC which are 1A.

Yeah I should have looked that up before I posted. I’m still willing to bet that individual SEC school athletic foundations and spending are higher than those of big 10 schools though
