Yes it is - I lived in the Rio Grande Valley for 12 years

But you can learn some basics first

Duolingo and Memrise for learning the basics. Sign up on Italki once you’re ready to have conversations with someone. I’ve used this workflow for French and now I’m nearly fluent.

Spanish is the most useful second language for the average American to learn.

I have used Rosetta Stone but I like Duolingo much more. It’s great for kids too.

Duolingo is good for the basics. You should be able to pick up pieces of what Papi is saying about you at the bodega by the end of it.

I'd rather spread the trim and plow the bushes.

Yeah, I taught myself B1-B2 level Norwegian so far. I just used Duolingo, memrise, bought some books to read (started with childrens books), and started following the news in Norwegian/watched TV shows in the language.

Immersion is truly the best way to learn though, luckily for Spanish you have so many cities in the US where that is possible. Maybe find a local or online Spanish speaking group. I use an online group to practice.

A travel board poster linked a blog by a couple who retired young and moved to Mexico. They have several short YouTube Spanish lessons that are really helpful for basic pronunciation and language. The guy has a good teaching style. LINK

I dove into for about a month. Try duolingo. It is an app. Once you get the structure, it is simple memorizing the words.

The best way is to get a practice partner and have conversations. You can do that online now through apps.

Not hard to learn. But retaining it is very difficult. You have to use it constantly or you forget.

I had a job once where I would occasionally have to email customers in Spanish speaking countries. I got to where I was thinking in Spanish when I read and replied. Wouldn't be able to do that now.
