Has anyone tried to learn Spanish or any foreign language and had good success? If so, what path did you follow? Rosetta Stone? Anything else?

I’ve been learning on the job. But I wouldn’t actually call it Spanish it’s more like “Spanglish“

Those programs are good to get the foundation and vocab down. But you have to immerse yourself within people who speak it on a constant basis to truly be fluent. I studied abroad in Spain for 3 months and I learned more and got near fluent being there than I did in the 4 years I studied it in high school and college as I was forced to speak it.

Do you live in East Baton Rouge parish or Ascension Parish? If you do, get a library card, and use Mango languages through the library. I’ve read it’s not as good as Rosetta Stone but it’ll give you an idea of how much effort you will put into it before you buy the software.

5 semesters in college and 2 months living abroad. I spent time between semesters reading foreign books and listening to foreign radio stations on iheart or tunein radio.

I have friends trying to learn using duolingo which is a good app but they have a ton of questions about pronunciation and spelling that aren't answered on the app. I've used rosetta stone and it's very similar.

I'd try to find a high school or college book and use that in conjunction with something like duolingo or rosetta stone.

Thanks. I know some amount of immersion is key, but getting started recs are what I need. I'll give this a shot

4 semesters of college Spanish.

From what I've seen of some of those Spanish apps/programs, they seem mostly geared toward teaching just vocabulary words.
