Has your child ever been approached online?

We got my son (10) a Fitbit for his birthday earlier this year, and he’s been wearing it pretty regularly.
This afternoon (some 6 mos. later) he asked if he could install the Fitbit app on his iPod so he could sync it with Apple Health. Didn’t really think the app had a big risk potential.
Tonight I see him playing on the iPod more than usual - I grab it and find him chatting with some random guy in the Fitbit app. He’s been through the online safety course with the Cub Scouts, but didn’t recognize this as something he should be weary of.
Creep is probably late 20’s, early 30’s - profile picture is him in a mirror with no shirt on.
My son had created a profile picture that clearly shows him to be a minor.
This fricker asked my son where he lives... what he’s doing for Thanksgiving... if he was being safe... several questions about his pets... and then, if he had, or could create a Google Hangouts account “so he could get to know him better”.
Obviously we took his Fitbit and iPod away, and will be deleting the app. Not sure if there is anything else that should be done? Is there someone to report creeps like this to?
And while we were looking over his chat logs, requests from two other people came in wanting to be “friends” on Fitbit.
There are some sick bastards out there...

Not that I'm aware of but I taught my daughter about online predators and pedos a long time ago.
I've also drilled in her head over and over that any picture she sends or post she makes online is no longer under her control.

Chris Hansen playbook.
Arrange meeting, but instead of being taken down by cops, you let him check your knuckles.

Did you at least tell the guy you had his info and were going to kill him?

Post his pic and info. There are people here that will give him more “chat” than he can stand.

Fitbit... really?
I guess no app is safe. These sick bastards will use any type of app to be predatory toward children.

My kids? No. Kids of people I know, yes.
All I can suggest is to file a report with the police. It doesn't sound like the guy did anything illegal (yet) so I don't think there is much they can do. However, if you report it, it could link to another case where the guy has done something illegal.

Maybe he identifies as a 10 year old, we shouldn’t be so judgmental.

Maybe they can setup a sting where they pretend to be your son and wait for him to try to meet up with your son or see where he goes with this contact.
This event scares me. I need to make sure my nephews and nieces don’t have this app. I know my son doesn’t.

You need to post slightly more information to track him down. I have never seen a name return more pedophile pictures than Emmanuel R.
They all look creepy as shite

A friend's son had something similar happen. Some guy talked his son into giving him $150.00 somehow through an app.. They went ballistic on their son.. I told him it could have been worse and they caught before it got worse.

Regarding nothing illegal yet: The FBI may be able treat the solicitation of a hangouts meeting as a solicitation for pictures and video of your son.
Contact FitBit. Let them know they’re fricking retards for having a social media platform. Why the frick do they need a social platform? Why a chat room?
Narcissistic fricking douchebags needing to share their “ommggggggg I rannn my 5k and my legs hurt soooo bad” memes can go frick themselves. But that rant it for another thread.
