Minor in possession of alcohol in Louisiana

State law says you can be fined $100, go to jail for 6 months, lose your license for 6 months.
What is the usual practical application? I’m guessing $100 fine? Or maybe fine and probation of some sort?

Thats just some thing the LSUPD came up with for a quick budget jump. Doesn't exist.

You get 7 days in jail for third offense DUI in Louisiana, so I'd guess you probably just have to pay a fine for a MIP.

Six months in Orleans Parish Prison should straighten the young lad out

You down with OPP?
Unless things have changed since 2009-2014ish, I don't think its much more than a fine. Tons of people got them and nothing ever happened, so I am assuming they paid and did some sort of expungement or pre-trial diversion thing or something.

Tell your lawyer to argue that any jail time would be the same as a death sentence in these dark winter days of COVID.

With the way things are going in the country, i would be amazed if an officer actually was using that.
That is too easy a way to have an investigation brought on an officer for pretty much no reason

Whenever I see the penalties in the criminal statutes, I think that they must have been drafted a hundred years ago when 6 months in jail was actually a viable alternative to paying $100.

My first I paid to have expunged, I think. Was 20 years ago.
My second I had to attend some stupid class where they told me that anyone that drinks more than 3 beers in a sitting is an alcoholic.
I can't remember if it was the state or lsu that I got mine from though.

I got 2 of them in the 90s. I don't remember what happened for the first one. The 2nd one I had to go to Substance Abuse Awareness training and possibly pay a fine. It's hard to remember the details from that long ago. Neither are on my record.
The first one happened when I was 15/16. The second one when I was 19 or so.
