Crazy that a large section of spirit lake is still filled with trees.

something currently going on with St Helens? I can see it on a clear day from where I live and don't feel like dealing with an eruption

The clear cutting was more dramatic than the volcano.

Will always be one of the more fascinating places I have visited. Standing on the ridge looking out at one of nature’s most beautiful, yet destructive formations is surreal. There aren’t many of those locations in the lower 48, especially considering how recent that event was.

It's a beautiful area. Washington has some stunning scenery.

Logging has really messed up the aestheticss of the Cascades. Not so visible from the ground but is very apparent flying in.

It's the weird patchwork of clearcutting that makes it look bizarre. Wouldn't be too bad inone locale.

That sucks.

I haven't been to Washington in 23 years but I spent a few summers in Bellingham as a 19-20 yr old. It's a gorgeous area of the country.

That logging show on the History channel really popularized logging in that area.

You can see it on Google maps really well.

The North Cascades are not as bad as the lower areas of the Washington Cascades.

I’ve been on the rim of two volcanoes. Mount St. Helens and Vesuvius. It was work getting to the top of St. Helens though.

That was a lot less interesting than I thought it would be.

You cannot just decide you want to start a logging company. Demand has increased timber prices.

I was a kid living in Germany at the time of the Mt. St Helens eruption.

Ash fell on us for something like three days a week or so after the eruption.

Those are not clearcuts. Washington has very high forest practice standards. There are leave tree requirements and riparian buffers.
