I buy a lot of used books, particularly children's books for my son. Many were given to the original owners as gifts and have the sweetest notes inside the front cover. Maybe I'm too sentimental, but I would not part with these, either.

Look, she may be a terrible person, but I'm just not going to assume so when there are other reasonable explanations.

I could tell by the way she acted that she just really didn’t know what they were. To her, they were “just something her dad in the Army”. I had to explain the few ribbons I recognized.

I’m just hoping she was keeping the medals, just selling the ribbons. There were no actual medals for sell.

My grandfather had 2 Purple Hearts.

A nephew of his sold him on the idea of giving his son one as his son was depressed from his mother dying. Well, he did and years later at their house, I was visiting with the kid and found the medal in a junk drawer. LIVID

His son got the remaining one when he passed as he should but that still pisses me off. At least I got his 33rd degree mason ring he always wore. It’s clipped where they took it off of his hand. I will never repair it nor will I wear it (I’m not a Mason). But, it’s kept safe and I cherish it.

Wow.

My grandad had two of the ones in the middle (blue and yellow). He was WWII Air Corps. Flew in the Battle of the Bulge

Sure but now we're just adding assumptions to reach a predetermined conclusion.

My only point is that the fact that the ribbons were for sale is not in itself enough to make assumptions about this random woman that we know nothing else about. There are reasons for her to sell these that don't automatically make her a shitty daughter and an unpatriotic bitch.

I would have taken them built a nice shadow display box for them and mailed them back to her with a nice note

I didn't even think of that. Possible her dad already had his original ribbons (or better yet, the actual medals) in a display box and op bought one of his "every day" racks. Lots of guys do that.

Dad was in Army for 20 yrs and helped set up the war games after(including Polk). Come to find out he was kind of a big deal. Flew in a bird dog(2 tours Vietnam) and that's the "out of country patch"

That actual thought crossed my mind when I was there, and probably what I would have done if she sold them to me.

All too common these days.

I have some letters from a seabee to his wife... And her to him... They wrote each other daily... Anyway after their passing the family sold them..

At a WWII Trade show... for $15 I bought an entire pack.. It was from a school teacher... it had ever letter, contact etc of herteaching career during WWII. Apparently she was born in Oklahoma, married A guy from Louisiana...She was letters of offers from all over. Plus her wedding photos...

I had to do it... I plan on putting in a three ring binder.

Out of all the things that get up voted and downvoted.. Why would people down vote someone suggesting an act of kindness?

That looks like the stack of an officer

He retired as a major. Loved the troops and whenever soldiers around Polk would see him, even in Lake Charles, they would recognize him and salute. Made it worth him being gone so often as a child.
